Overview

The plot for Speak Up! It's Murder came from personal experience when Doug Hall was targeted by a deranged listener on his radio talk show.
There was nothing unusual about a body being discovered floating in Trinty Bay at New Cornwall's waterfront. What was unusual was the state of the body. It was a totally nude male, with throat slashed, finger pads and all dental work removed. The face had suffered severe blunt force trauma making identification impossible. The letter "M" had been carved on the middle of the chest.
Following the gruesome discovery, five more bodies, with identical modus operandi, were dumped within New Cornwall's city limits.
New Cornwall's citizens feared that a serial killer was in their midst. Action was demanded from an ineffectual city council and mayor who did not support the police.
Victor Cantrell, host of CKMB's top rated talk show "Open Mike", and Alex Loring, the Tribune's acrid columnist, became the voices of outrage. They championed New Cornwall and were drawn into M's devious web.
Detective Sergeant Garth Kennedy was assigned Case Manager and quickly assembled twelve seasoned homicide detectives into his "M Squad". They were formed into two-man teams and each was assigned and each was assigned to investigate one of the six John Does lying on a slab in the morgue.
Victims of a devious Ponzie scheme, pointed Kennedy to Claymore Mortgage & Loan. He realized that he was getting close to "M" when the trail led to an abandoned abattoir and the killing floor on a farm near Claymore.
The investigation came to a stunning climax when the Crown prosecutor cut a deal with an informant.
