    Extra review my son needed

I bought this workbook for my son going into 4th grade. At the end of 3rd grade he had trouble with long division. I thought this would help reinforce what he'd learned and he wouldn't be behind when he started reviewing in 4th grade. The more he did the division the easier it became and he seemed to understand what he was doing. It only took him 15 to 20 minutes to do a page or two so he didn't feel like his whole summer was ruined. I will also use this book to help him if he needs extra work on 4th grade math that he doesn't grasp well at first. The instructions were easy for him to understand and enough to refresh his memory.

This workbook has some serious deficiencies, as does this entire line of workbooks.  The biggest problem is an
overall lack of organization with pages demanding very difficult tasks followed by pages that are extremely simple
such as a page of 40 problems of up to 3 digit multiplication followed by a page 1 digit multiplication with multiplication
table featured on the page. In other words, the work does not build upon prior knowledge and mastery appropriately.
The second and equally frustrating problem with the book is a real lack of space to complete the problems.  Many 4th graders are just mastering penmanship and the cramped space makes it very difficult to make their work legible. It has caused needless frustration in our house. So many parents at our school have complained about this workbook that our school is contemplating dropping it from the curriculum.
