Barnes & Noble - Lisa Zhito
Steven Curtis Chapman is Christian music's most decorated star -- he's won more Dove and Grammy awards than any other artist. With SPEECHLESS, his 12th release, he proves he's worth every accolade. The infectious "Dive" opens this collection with its message of plunging into faith, a theme that dominates the album. Chapman has said SPEECHLESS was birthed during a period of faith-testing, a time when two dramatic events touched his life: A friend of his lost his young daughter in a car accident, and the fatal shootings in a Paducah, Kentucky, high school occurred at Chapman's alma mater. So despite its high energy, SPEECHLESS takes an introspective tone, which is ...

So despite its high energy, SPEECHLESS takes an introspective tone, which is especially apparent on songs such as the tender "With Hope," a Chapman classic about a believer who doesn't claim to have all the answers but who continually points to the source of his healing. The song, which was performed at memorial services for both the Paducah and Columbine high school shootings, became an anthem of healing, but it's far from the album's defining moment. Unsentimental, rocking numbers such as "Dive," "Speechless," and "I Do Believe" more appropriately sum up this collection's message: Faith is a celebration. He's right, too: These songs make it hard -- if not impossible -- to stay speechless.
All Music Guide - Heather Phares
Steven Curtis Chapman, Christian music's most awarded artist, returns with 1999's Speechless. Songs like the title track and "Dive" will please his fans, who have helped Chapman sell over four million albums, and win 38 Dove Awards and three Grammies.

The 1st SCC album I fell in love with

I first heard the song 'Dive' while listening to the cd in our neighbors' van. Well, that did it. From that point on, I was a Steven Curtis Chapman fan! :) I bought this cd for my brother's 8th birthday, and we still love it.

    Most excellent album!

He goes right back to the heart of where we should be--Speechless at the awesomeness of God: the creator and savior of the world. This is a simple yet very deep album. Musically, it is great, lyrically, it is great! The album talks about God's goodness and love that He has given freely to us. The album is enjoyed by just about everyone in my youth group. The book that he has cowritten with his pastor helps to drive home the point also of getting our eyes off of ourselves and realizing the magnificence of the creator.
