The book Spencer W. Kimball was written by his son Edward L. Kimball and grandson Andrew E. Kimball, Jr. This book tells the life and adventures of the twelfth Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, from his birth to his death. The book overall is enjoyable and filled with fun stories of this man, but I felt overwhelmed at times because of all these facts. Often we put leaders up on a pedestal and consider them perfect. This book shows that President Kimball was an ordinary man and had his own imperfections and doubts. When he was called to the quorum of the twelve apostles, he felt that he was unworthy to fill that position. He said, “There must be some mistake…I am so weak and small and limited and incapable.” You see his sense of humor and positive attitude throughout this book. When troubles came around, you could guarantee that he would crack a joke or find a bright side to it. Because the author shows the Prophet’s weaknesses and joys in life, he makes the book more enjoyable and makes this man more like a relatable friend. You are able to learn more about this Prophet, but it can be overwhelming to hear all the stories and experiences of this wise counselor. At times you will be reading several different stories or insights, within two pages. Because you have so much information that you are reading someone could feel as if they aren’t learning anything. I would advise if this happens to you, that you stop reading for a bit to sort out what the text saying. Take your time reading this book, than it will be far more enjoyable. This book, though overwhelming at times, is an enjoyable one. It offers new insights into this seer’s life and made me laugh and cry. It is heart touching to see this man’s dedication to his family, friends and to the Lord. I would highly suggest reading the biography of Spencer W. Kimball.
