Overview

Published to acclaim and controversy a decade ago, Sperm Wars is a revolutionary thesis about sex that turned centuries-old biological assumptions on their head. Evolution has programmed men to conquer and monopolize women while women, without ever knowing they are doing it, seek the best genetic input on offer from potential sexual partners. In this book, best-selling author Robin Baker reveals these new facts of life: ten percent of children are not fathered by their "fathers;" less than one percent of a man's sperm is capable of fertilizing anything (the rest is there to fight off all other men's sperm); "smart" vaginal mucus encourages some sperm but blocks others; and a woman is far more likely to conceive through a casual fling than through sex with her regular partner. It's no wonder that Sperm Wars is a classic of popular science writing that will surprise, entertain, and even shock.

I read the book in a paperback edition. I found it funny and educational. Baker has summarized a lot of scientific research in a way that is accessible to non-scientists.

This is a very interesting look at why men and women, men and men, women and men (and just about every other couple one can imagine) act the way they do towards one another. Split into different types of relatationships the chapters contain different scenarios followed by interpretations as to why the characters involved act/react the way that they do. This is an insightful book. Also very accessible to people of science and those who are just interested in human (and some animal) behavior, or just looking for explanations as to why they themselves feel/act the way that they do. As relevant today as I am sure it was when it was first published in 1996.

The author writes a short story in each chapter relevant to the scientific analytical perspective and authorative lesson making science entertaining yet timeless to anyone of sexual age. It explains many interactions faced by generations of men and women reguardless of time era. Biological success, Explained sexual stimuli. YOU MUST GO INTO READING THIS BOOK BLIND FOLDED WITHOUT PERSONAL BIAS ON SEXUAL MORALS. BECAUSE MORALS DO NOT EXIST WHEN LEARNING ABOUT HUMAN SEXUALITY
