Overview

The Spice Girls, as well as their managers and songwriters, are nothing if not clever, and Spiceworld, the group's second album, illustrates exactly how sharp they are. Conventional wisdom dictates that Spiceworld should be a weak facsimile of Spice, which itself featured a handful of great singles surrounded by filler. Conventional wisdom, in this case, is wrong -- Spiceworld is a better record than its predecessor, boasting a more consistent (and catchier) set of songs and an intoxicating sense of fun. Instead of merely rewriting Spice, Spiceworld consolidates and expands the group's style, adding Latin flourishes ("Spice Up Your Life"), kitschy blues ("The Lady Is a Vamp"), and stomping, neo-Motown blue-eyed soul in the vein of Culture Club ("Stop"). The girls -- Mel C. in particular -- are actually turning into good vocalists, and each song plays to their strengths, giving each Spice a chance to shine. Best of all, each song has a strong melody and a strong, solid beat, whether it's a ballad or a dance number. It's a pure, unadulterated guilty pleasure and some of the best manufactured mainstream dance-pop of the late '90s.

I'm a fan of the Spice Girls, but not a fanatic. I never knew their Spice Names, or kept track of what magazines called their favorite colors or foods. I love their music, but was never obsessed with their public personas. I played my first copy of this CD until it was scratched beyond playing, then found a replacement. I've also found them on Youtube. The Spice Girls have been a source of joy for a long time. "When I'm feeling sad and low, they will take me where I gotta go". So many years later, and they still "Spice Up My Life".

I loved this CD as a little girl, could do all of the dances to it, and of course, knew every word in every song. ROCK ON SPICE GIRLS!

This is their best cd yet! I like most of the songs. It isn't really like Spice. I was somewhat dissapointed with that cd for the reason that there were only a couple of good songs. But this one is a lot better. The first five tracks are excellent! I also like Viva Forever! Denying is a good song! The Lady is a Vamp isn't my favorite but it's still a cool song. I would have to say my least favorite song is probably Move Over. But it is still a cool cd. So if you're a Spice Girls fan you should get this cd. And even if you're not you really might enjoy this cd!

This album is full of Girl Power. There are no bad songs! 'Spice up your life', 'Stop', 'Move Over', 'Do It', 'Never Give up on the Good Times' are classic girl power songs. Fullll of energy! 'Too Much' and 'Viva Forever' are slow tracks, classics! 'Saturday Night Divas' and 'The Lady is a Vamp' are some 'tradiotionell music' but with girl power!

This is by far the worst major release of the last twenty years. May god forgive us all for supporting their careers. The Spice Girls make the Macarena sound like a symphony.
