    BLANDER THAN THE FIRST

    Collecting ASM 552-558
First, Bob Gale and Phil Jimenez are together for the debut of Freak, the invincible addict. While tension collides with the election of mayor, Spidey takes down a man stealing donatons from FEAST. But does heknow it will come back and bite him, die, come back, die......
Second,Zeb Wells and Chris Bachalo team up. Doctor Strange predicts a massive threat and sends Spiderman and Wolverine against it. Can they hold their own against the gods themselves?
Last, both Freak and Menace are back, determined to give Spidey the worst day of his life. Can he stop them before another fatality in the election is counted for?
In the end, this volume is not as good as the first. Chris Bachalo's art is awkward and doesn't fit in with the others. The villians are boring. Freak had already been made in several different occasions, and Mayan gods are not as well thought of as the others. It could definately improve, but it isn't bad. I will give it 4 stars mainly because the storytelling is terrific.

Second Part of Brand New Day Disappoints!

I really enjoyed the opening volume of Brand New Day, so I was really disappointed that this collecton fell so flat. The most interesting villains, Menance and Mister Negative, are afterthoughts to hokier villains like the Freak and Bachalo's Mayan whatevers. Plus Bachalo's art is so out of place when next to his peers. Overall, a bummer.
