Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Vicki Foote
The action starts almost immediately as Spider-Man fights his evil foes, Venom and Carnage. Peter Parker works at a coffee shop and is a freelance photographer for a newspaper, but mostly he is changing into his spider suit to help prevent crime in New York City. This chapter book in the "Spider-Man" series begins with a prologue that explains how Peter Parker was just an ordinary high school student until he was bitten by a radioactive spider and developed superhuman strength and a sense of danger. His well-known skills include clinging to surfaces, crawling over walls, and shooting webs. Each chapter contains enough action to keep the reader wondering what will happen next. Readers who are expecting this kind of story will not be disappointed. Lots of violence throughout the story supersedes the personal life of the main character. Occasional black-and-white illustrations show the figures in their fighting scenes. Reviewer: Vicki Foote
