Overview

The author of Ghostland continues her tale of a postapocalyptic world where supernatural beings have emerged from hiding.

Held prisoner by humans, his angelic memory and power lost because of the sigil-inscribed collar around his neck, Tir dreams of freedom and hungers for vengeance. He's sworn he'll never lie with a mortal, but when Araña removes his shackles and helps him escape his captivity, she melts his icy control and leaves him burning with desire. She's a temptation he can't resist-an unknowing enemy who might well enslave him more thoroughly than the chains he's worn for centuries.

Powerful forces have brought them together to serve a greater purpose, but learning the truth of what they are will destroy them-unless their love is strong enough to overcome the dark legacy of a battle that began with the birth of mankind.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Strong revisits her postapocalyptic version of Oakland, a city torn between a supernatural-fearing church and powerful vice lords, in this intensely erotic sequel to 2009’s Ghostland. Arana, a thief who can change the threads of people’s lives, is shocked to find that Tir, a shackled immortal, is immune to her magic. Tir is just as surprised that a human woman can inflame his passion. Together they struggle to understand her gifts and learn how to unlock his collar and his memories. Arana’s acceptance of Tir’s dominance in bed jars with her otherwise preternatural competence, and the rich setting and evocative writing fail to carry along the convoluted plot or unsurprising protagonists. Those who like urban fantasy may find the sex out of place, especially given the extremely strong language, and those who like erotica may find too much else going on. (Aug.)

Jory Strong continues to paint a post apocalyptic world

In Oakland, Arana the human thief has the uncanny ability to change the threads of lives of others due to the deadly spider tattoo that wanders all over her body. Though an outsider due to her anomaly, she has felt safe and loved for a few years due to the protectiveness of two endearing pirates, Eric and Matt. However, both are dead and she is taken prisoner.

Tir has no memory of his past and has had his power drained to almost nothing due to a collar he wears. He knows one thing with certainty: he loathes humans. He and Arana meet while both are being held prisoner; each is stunned; he because a mortal liberates his mind and she because he is immune to her tattoo. They become lovers with a goal of freedom, which begins with learning who they are and where they come from.

As with GHOSTLAND, Jory Strong continues to paint a post apocalyptic world (following The Last War) as a dark, grim realm. Ariana is a refreshing kick butt heroine and Tir who detests humans with his deepest soul (can an angel or whatever have a soul?) is a heroic Prometheus like figure. Together they are a formidable team in the deadly streets of New California. However, on the other hand in the boudoir scenes her acquiescence as a submissive to his dominance seems off kilter for her take the hill personality. Still erotic urban fantasy readers will relish SPIDER-TOUCHED (and GHOSTLAND) while looking forward to many more Strong escapades in the Oakland diocese

    Beware the tenderhearted

Great follow-up to the first novel, Ghostland. Beware to tenderhearted: the writing is slightly offensive, but I personally love the writing. Post-apocalyptic world, unique and erotic, can't wait for the next installment.

    Satisfying Series Continues

This is the second book I have read by Jory Strong, the first being Ghostland. Her writing transports you to a intricate world where Supernaturals have come "out of the closet" so to speak and civilization as we know it has taken several steps back. But aside from the interesting world she has created she has populated that world with mesmerizing characters full of secrets and courage, passion and heat! I would highly recommend both books in this series. They will both certainly occupy prominent places on my keeper shelf!

    Great world building and heat!

I have been reading Jory Strong's e-books for a long time and was excited when she started publishing in paper. This is her second book set in a post-apocalyptic US but is a stand alone novel. I enjoyed this even more than Ghostland her first novel set in this world. The main character Arana is an interesting enigma and it is not until part way through the book we even figure out how she fits into this world populated with humans, vampires, Djinn, Angels, Weres and gifted humans. Her match Tir is an enigma also albeit a hot one! The sparks fly between them immediately and in addition to good world building and plot there is plenty of heat! I can't wait for more!
