Overview

Book 2 of the dystopian epic fantasy.

Her fate was to hold the world together. His destiny was to tear it apart.

In the post-cataclysm world, Durga rules Red City and controls the chalices. These rare fertile females provide kings with natural-born heirs -- the gods' sign of divine right to rule. Durga's life is filled with luxury, pleasure, and duty. She can have anything she wants -- anything but love, which is forbidden by the goddess.

When the king of Garrick threatens the balance of power, Durga finds an ally in Khai, the free-willed scion of Luxor. Khai is powerful, brilliant, and gorgeous, and brash enough to challenge even the gods. Durga's feelings for him deepen dangerously beyond admiration.

Durga struggles against her own heart to stay true to all who depend on her for survival. But as she and Khai band together to fight Garrick and save the new world order, their love poses the biggest threat of all.

Arkali The Romance Reviews
SPIDERWORK is a gritty novel of action and political intrigue with a healthy serving of romance mixed in ... deftly written, bitter-sweet romance that will definitely whet the appetite for more ... a unique approach to building a series, and I am eagerly awaiting the next novella ... along with the first full-length novel, (FIREBIRD).

This is the second book in LK Rigel’s In Flagrante Apocolyto series, being equal parts paranormal and science fiction. I liked Space Junque (book #1 in series) because it introduced me to a genre I had never encountered before. The characters were interesting, the plot was interesting, and the world was interesting. Well, I liked Spiderwork even more. My initial reactions upon finishing the book were…”excellent”!

Overall, Rigel created one hell of a world filled with characters that you could really get attached to. The world itself is still in the beginning stages of being rebuilt and I look forward to seeing what she comes up with next. I would definitely recommend this series to readers that are curious about science fiction but don't want to get all Star Trekky. The romance really brings this series to a whole new level, leaving the sci-fi factors in the dust, so to speak.

Meet the Author

LK Rigel lives in California with her television-watching cat, Coleridge. (His favorite show is Castle, but he was enthralled by Game of Thrones.) Rigel wrote songs for the 90's band The Elements, scored the independent science fantasy karate movie Lucid Dreams, and was a reporter for the Sacramento Rock 'N Roll News. Her work has appeared in Literary Mama and Tattoo Highway.

Rigel writes the postapocapunk "Apocalypto" series about the end of the world and the new reality in which the gods return to save humanity from itself - and end up fighting with each other.

Her short story "Slurp" about an author with muse problems on Halloween is included in DEADLY TREATS, Anne Frasier's Halloween anthology published by Nodin Press.

Her latest book, GIVE ME, is an adult fairy tale about possession.

    Great Sequel!

After reading Space Junque by Ms. Rigel I have been eagerly awaiting more of the story. Spiderwork delivers! I enjoyed reading about how the new world's customs, policies, and politics are formed. It's interesting to be "in" so to speak, on planet building.

Ms. Rigel did a great job following up with the characters of SJ, and though I understand it is the end of the story for some of them, I am interested in reading someday how the world continues to progess. Especially misbehaving Durga, I'd love to know how the goddess continues to deal with her.

This book started out slow for me. I started to put the book down then remembered that space junque started out slow. I keep reading and about 25% in it got interesting. I was a little confused. The book stated out about 2 people and somewhere near the end of the book was bout 2 different people.

A great follow up book to Space Junque. It was fun to follow along as the key players involved struggle to form a new world order after catastrophic events destroy the world as we know it. As with Space Junque, I found myself re-reading paragraphs- but more because I didn't want to miss anything than from a lack of understanding events.
This is a story packed full of interesting characters, a unique plot line, and thought provoking ideas of what our world could someday look like. I enjoyed reading it (for the second time) very much.
