SPIES IN THE PROMISED LAND takes a dramatic episode from the Bible (the Book of Numbers) and brings it to life in a vibrant way. Numbers is one of the most overlooked books of the Bible, yet it offers some of the most dramatic material, including the story of the 12 spies’ excursion into the land of Israel and the subsequent conflict that their disastrous report would bring upon the fledgling nation of Israel. As a result of their report, the nation of Israel would be banned from entering the land, and forced to wander the desert for another 40 years. The Biblical story also offers great warrior-heroes in the characters of Caleb (the protagonist), and Joshua, who were both spies on the expedition.

SPIES IN THE PROMISED LAND is a moving, literary and powerful work of fiction which brings the Biblical book of Numbers to life for the first time. It is a must-read for both readers of the Bible and for the general audience that loved historical fiction like THE RED TENT.

    A great read!

This literary novel was also fast-paced, offering an in depth psychological portrait of the spies who were commanded to scout out the land of Israel. It's very faithful to the Biblical account, and thus, in addition to being a great read, it also offers a great primer and education as to the Biblical account. I'd recommend it highly for both those looking for great historical fiction and for anyone interested in learning more about the Bible in a lively way.

    Incredible Bible Thriller

I was captivated for the entire book. This is a thriller that takes place in the Bible, the actual story of Caleb and the spies. The author, with his great literary gift, has taken an authentic story and made it so alive, relevant, and meaningful that I could not put it down. Written beautifully with great artfulness, the work takes us right to the days of the Bible, puts us there and has us share in the incredible story of Caleb, Joshua and the spies. I recommend this wholeheartedly. You will learn a lot as well as thoroughly enjoy your time with this great novel.

    Brings the Bible to life!

After reading this novel, for the first time I really felt as if the stories in this section of the Bible come to life. I loved seeing the in-depth look at the characters, their perspectives, and their conflicts. I really felt the tension and the suspense all throughout. The Biblical stories went from being merely mentioned in the Bible to really coming alive over the course of these 200 pages. This is really a magnificent work!

    Great Biblical novel

Spies entering the Promised Land!!! This author brings the spies to life in this gripping novel of the Israelites preparing to enter Canaan. Their loves; their fears; their heroics and their cowardice are brought into play. Spell binding action. Highly recommend this one.

Exaggerated story telling. Found it hard to get into the story, especially in the beginning. Very abrupt ending.

I was thrown by the names at first but then I got into the characters and it was a good read. Helps you see what standing strong in the Lord can look like.

    Outstanding

This is an outstanding literary work. The author takes a dramatic episode in the Bible--in this case, the story of the 12 spies who were assigned to scout out the land of Israel--and takes us on an amazing and realistic adventure through Biblical Israel. Although the novel is written in a very literary style, the pace never slows. I found myself settling into the style after the first chapter, and after that, I was riveted. It's true--this is one of the most dramatic stories in the Bible--and I've never seen it dramatized before, especially in this way. The author is also very faithful to the Biblical text of what happened, which I appreciate. I feel like I learned a lot. But more importantly, it was an amazing read, with amazing characters. I highly recommend it.
