Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Digitally rendered cartoon animals change into other animals via wheels, pull-tabs, and pop-ups. Turning a wheel rotates a cow’s head until it resembles an owl. A butterscotch-colored frog on a lily-pad flips up to become a mouse peering over tall grass (“Frog finds a pond/ to cool his feet./ What a great place/ to beat the heat./ Moose walks down/ to take a sip./ Pull the tab/ to see them flip!”). And a die-cut monkey’s head flips over to turn into a duck on the following spread. It’s a simple concept, well-executed, and readers should be tickled by the trompe-l’oeil effect. Ages 3–up. (Aug.)
Children's Literature - Eleanor Heldrich
The cover on this small (6 ?" by 8 ?") book is protected by a sheet of clear plastic that is just loose enough to allow a careful finger to turn the figure of a little red bird around inside a recessed circle until it becomes a little red fish, or visa-versa, if you find the book with a red fish on the cover. The seven double-page spreads inside have rhyming couplets on the left side and movables on the right. There are two wheels to spin, three tabs to pull and, on the last page, the reader only needs to turn the page to make a monkey flip over and become a duck! Other turnabouts are: a squirrel into a horse, a frog into a moose and a mouse into a cat. My personal favorite is the cow that turns into an owl, but the last one, turning a monkey into a duck, is by far the most elaborate. Several of the pull actions were difficult to pull, and a jiggle of the tab helped. Reviewer: Eleanor Heldrich
