Overview

Is that a wooden stake in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

After five years in eastern Europe using his unique, inborn skills to slay bloodsuckers, Gabe is back in his hometown Chicago and feeling adrift. Until he’s kidnapped by a young, sexy vampire who seems more interested in getting into his pants than biting into his neck.

Harvey Feng is one-half Chinese, one-hundred-percent vampire. He warns Gabe to stay out of the Windy City, but somehow he isn’t surprised when the young slayer winds up on his doorstep. And why shouldn’t Gabe be curious? A vegetarian vampire isn’t something one sees every day.

Against their better judgment, slayer and vampire succumb to temptation. But their affair attracts unexpected attention.

When Chicago’s Vampire Boss makes Gabe an offer he can’t refuse, the unlikely lovers are thrust into peril and mystery in the dark heart of the Windy City. Together they hunt for kidnappers, a killer preying on young humans, and vicious vampire junkies.

However, dealing with murderous humans and vampires alike is easy compared to figuring out if there’s more to their relationship than hot, kinky sex.

Warning: Fangalicious man-on-man action, a troublesome twink, cross-dressing vampiress, and role-playing involving a fedora.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Gabe has spent the last five years in Eastern Europe honing his abilities as a vampire slayer, yet within days of being back in Chicago he gets bested by a young—and vegetarian—vampire named Harvey. Intrigued by this unique creature, Gabe shows up on Harvey's doorstep and is drawn into his curious world. Can there ever be anything more to their relationship than hot sexcapades? VERDICT Harper takes traditional paranormal romance and swerves down a side street with Gabe and Harvey's relationship. Bound like a collection of novellas, the story of their work and love life builds steadily, offering both gripping action and steamy sex. I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. 4.5 Stars Wow…This was a wonderful, exciting read.  Not your typical vampire story.  Lou Harper has managed to create a unique vampire setting with fascinating and real characters.  Often times you get the brooding/alpha vampire in these types of books, but not in this story. This is the story of Gabe and Harvey.  Gabe is a natural born vampire hunter.  He has spent the last several years in Europe killing vampires with his uncle.  When his uncle passes he returns to his home city of Chicago.  While out he spots a vampire and follows him to make a kill.  Unfortunately the tables were turned and he was kidnapped and told to leave the city.  Harvey is a vegetarian vampire.  He dislikes all acts of violence and doesn’t appreciate being stalked by a vampire slayer.     These characters were great.  Gabe is a very even keeled individual.  Most often he goes with the flow even though it goes against his basic instincts and training.  Harvey may appear to be innocent and sweet, but he would kill anyone that threatens somebody he loves.  These two are made for each other.   The writing and story were outstanding.  Harper created a visually appealing Chicago setting as well as a fantastic cast of characters.  The story is written in three parts.  All three parts shows the relationship build up between Gabe and Harvey, but each section dealt with a particular crisis.  In the first part, Harvey’s friend is kidnapped and he and Gabe must find him.  The second part involves a series of murders that Gabe must solve.  The final part involves Harvey’s forced turning and the circumstances behind the people who did it. My only complaint would be the unfinished storylines.  At one point Gabe questions the circumstances surrounding the death of his parents.  Nothing else is mentioned after he makes this claim.  Also more information about Gabe’s family comes to light throughout the story, but nothing seems to come of it.  It left me wondering why these facts were put in the story since it led to nowhere.  Maybe other books in this series will address these questions. If you enjoy vampires then I highly recommend this story.

**I received a copy of this novel for an honest review** When Gabe comes back home from Europe, after slaying with his uncle for five years, things are not how they used to be. The vampires he saw in the Old Country are nothing like they are here in the US. Gabe has no direction when he returns, not knowing whether he should continue slaying, since that’s all he’s known, or try something else. While out and about in the city, he encounters a vampire, old habits die hard, so he follows. Little did he know that he was being led right into a trap. I loved it! I thought it was funny, sexy, and it has some action in it too. It was like reading a modern day vampire version of The Godfather, lol. Ok not totally like the Godfather, lol, but certain parts kind of reminded me of it. I loved Harvey; he just made me smile throughout the whole novel. He's so funny, and crazy but in the good way. Gabe is your typical rough around the edges man who has a hard time with his feelings, but I think Gabe & Harvey make an awesome couple.  Though it's kind of ironic seeing as though Gabe is a slayer, but hey, those are the best relationships.  Spirit Sanguine is full of events and a few twists.  I highly enjoyed it and definitely recommend it.
