Overview

You know the battle is raging—but are you fighting the right enemy?

Just as enemies fought Joshua in the Promised Land, and Nehemiah faced opposition as he rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem, our enemy will fight us as we approach the spiritual terrain God has promised us. Most Christians retreat at the first sign of conflict because they fail to recognize the true nature of the battle. But you can prevail in freedom and joy.

Sharing his deeply personal story of demonic bondage, torment and ultimate deliverance, pastor and bestselling author Kris Vallotton turns the idea of spiritual warfare as we know it on its head. He reveals the diabolical lies and strategies of the enemy—attacks and traps so subtle and deceptive that we may find our souls and hearts imprisoned without even knowing it.

No more! Now you can win the invisible battle against sin and the enemy. Victory is within your grasp. Will you take hold?

"It is with great excitement that I recommend this book to you, knowing that fruit will increase until Jesus gets His full reward."—Bill Johnson, author, When Heaven Invades Earth and The Essential Guide to Healing, senior pastor, Bethel Church, Redding, California

    Interesting

Spirit Wars is an interesting book to say the least. I was definitely intrigued by Kris Vallotton's personal testimony and experience with spiritual warfare. I have read many books on this topic and I have to say that this was a very different and unique book on the subject.

Kris Vallotton writes with honesty as he conveys his personal and spiritual experiences. The first chapter deals with the premise by which he wrote this book. His goal is for people to be set free from demonic strongholds. I also found it to be somewhat of a self help book. He discusses ways in which people can fall prey to depression and the importance of taking care of oneself. I found his views to be sound as he wasn't propagating that people should not take medicine if they suffer from depression.

Spirit Wars offered good advice in some regards. However, the following are concepts I had trouble with.

"We are no longer sinners. But we do have a devious, evil enemy who is a sinner." (Page 43)

"What I am saying is that we do not naturally sin because we no longer have a sin nature that is married to the Law." (Page 43)

"A deceptive theology keeps circulating through the Church--a doctrine that basically says it is still our nature to sin after we have been born again. I am convinced this is a doctrine of demons." (Page 44)

"In fact, I have gone several weeks in a row without sinning." (Page 45)

I am sure there are some who agree with Kris Vallotton's position, however, I'm not one of them. Truthfully, I had a lot of trouble with the above and also that he calls himself as a prophet. He may very well be, as I am no one to judge. However, I personally don't subscribe to titles or positions in the Church.

Overall, I thought Spirit Wars was an interesting and somewhat informative book. However, I would have personally liked to have seen more scriptural references pertaining to his experiences. I'm wary of ingesting information of this nature at hearsay. I believe one has to discern truth from falsehood by the Word of God which alleviates confusion and deception.

In conclusion, I would like to thank Mr. Hart of Baker Publishing Group for sending me a complimentary copy of this book to review.

    Interesting

Spirit Wars is an interesting book. I was fascinated by Vallotton's testimony and experience with spiritual warfare. He has a different opinion on the subject. To me, this was more of a self help book. There were several things I disagree with or have a little trouble believing such as his claim that it isn't our nature to sin after becoming a Christian and that he has gone several weeks without committing a sin. I felt there wasn't enough scripture to back up his thinking.

One thing I especially liked is the entire book can be taken as a call to return to the gospel.

I received a copy of this book free from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for an honest review.

Have just finished this book. Next to reading the Bible I think it is possibly the best book on the market of this kind. It takes you into and through some of Kris's life experiences and shows us that through all he has gone through there is help for us all. I say help where I should say healing and deliverance for us all through Jesus Christ. If you are a seasoned follower of Jesus Christ and are searching for some help to understand why and what you are going through then read this book. If yo are a "only on Sunday morning" person then you might rethink this book. It will mess you up and cause you to really look at the walk you now have with Christ Jesus. It will give you a bit of insight of how the Holy Spirit will move in your life and it WILL cause the demons to flee from your being if you really want to follow Father, Son and the Holy Spirit!

This is without a doubt the best book I've found on spiritual warfare. It is God-focused and full of hope and power. It is also amazing insight into more serious issues like depression and spiritual oppression--things a lot of the church (and those outside of the church) don't understand or know how to address. I've already recommended this book to many friends; it is a must read for anyone who wants to understand what goes on in the world around them and how to live in true life and freedom!

Kris Vallotton does an excellent job of addressing this subject, by sharing his own experiences. When he does this, it becomes easy to relate to and apply it to my own experiences. He is humble and unusually knowledgable in this area. However, he is also a gifted teacher. Knowing about a subject and teaching about it are not necessarily traits that go hand in hand. This book is a fabulous tool for discerning who the real enemy is in a situation (Satan and his minions) and for bringing deliverance, while preserving the honor of the persons caught in the thicket of it all.  ~Melinda

This is an incredible book that challenges the way of thinking on
spiritual warfare. It is truly empowering. I love how easy to read it
was and how I still refer back to it time and time again when I need to
be reminded of truth. I read this book in a day and a half and gained
freedom from false mindsets and mainly fear. This book is not only for
people that need to be delivered. It is a great book for every Christian
to learn how to be more effective against spiritual warfare! Thank you
Kris for humbling using your testimony to help Christ usher in freedom
    and deliverance for many!

as if it were written just for me

Amazed at the relevance of this book pertaining to my life. I was able to break free from bondage I didn't know I had, after so closely relating with so many stories in this book. I feel so much lighter. It easier to laugh and I can love my husband again. Thank you for penning the thoughts of God for me. I would highly recommend this book especially to people who wish to live free, even if you think you already do.

We live in the realm of two different worlds, the visible one we

We live in the realm of two different worlds, the visible one we see with our earthly eyes and the invisible spiritual one that isn’t always visible, the one we sometimes see with our spiritual eyes. God created both worlds, and He has omnipotent power over both! Whether one believes in the invisible world or not, it still exists. It’s the evil entity of the invisible world that we war against in the power of the Holy Spirit. (Read the 6th chapter of Ephesians for a better understanding.)

Kris tells us his life story of bondage and torment to exemplify the two worlds clashing, and how the battle was won. It’s a story that is believable and horrific. It’s also believable in how his life was changed. He goes into detail about the lies, tactics and traps the devil uses, ones that everyone will go through at one time or another in their lives. His book is pertinent and relevant. Each chapter is vital to understand the battle we are in, and Kris is thorough in his teachings in each area.

Winning the invisible wars that haunt people is addressed in these chapters:

    Fighting for Peace
Are You Living in a Haunted House?
    Rules of Engagement
    The Wilderness
    The Flesh is Weak
    Treat Yourself Kindly
    Serious Joy
    The Armor of God
    Casting Out Demons
    Generational Curses
    On-the-Job Training
    For the Love of God

Kris Volloton’s book, Spirit Wars, is the first book I’ve read about Spiritual Warfare on this level since the teachings I received about seventeen years ago. I can easily say I agree with 99.99% of what is in Kris’s book! It’s Scriptural, forthright, and necessary for everyone’s spiritual life if they want to win the invisible war and bask in God’s joy, love and abundant life.

I would recommend this book for a Bible study group, a Sunday School class or personal study. Whichever way you decide, please decide to read it!

    more from this reviewer

    Great book

This is an excellent book, if I must say so myself. I find there are not many books written on the topic of spiritual warfare. Or, the few out there discuss the demonic as emotions instead of real entities. In this book, the author shares personal experiences of his own spiritual warfare and spiritual warfare in the lives of others. What was remarkable was the notion that fear is a spirit that can be cast out. I knew demons could be cast out, but I never thought of casting out spirits. That was new. I will not lie, some of Vallotton's stories of exorcism are a bit out there, but that does not discredit him. I feel as though there is spiritual warfare happening all over, but it is just that not many people are comfortable talking about it. What I also enjoyed was how Scripture was quoted and dissected when appropriate to really learn spiritual warfare. Also, there were word studies of the original words, which I liked. Overall, this book flows well and will teach Christians about a topic that is rarely discussed in church. While this book is by no means a final resource (it does not go into how angels fell, where the demonic come in, Rephaim, Nephilim, etc), it is a good stepping stone for those interested in spiritual warfare. I liked how the author noted how evil is out to get everyone and is an "equal opportunity" enemy.

"Spirit Wars" by Kris Vallotton is a very interesting book. The story centers around Vallotton's real life experiences with the battle he faced with the demonic forces of the spiritual realm. Vallotton became so fearful and experiences anxiety due to the torture he endured at the hands of the dark forces of the spiritual world. The story of his deliverance from his torturers is absolutely amazing, and offers us a rare glimpse inside his personal victory. Vallotton also gives us advice, based on his personal struggles, on winning our own spiritual battles, and how to be prepared for them. I thought this book offered up a lot of useful information and advice from someone who has experienced this spiritual battle, and I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about the spiritual battles raging in our lives.

    Highly Recommended

I am not shocked that much of the Church is clueless about the Spirit Wars and how real they are in our lives. I can totally see this book going every where to educate Christians. My only prayer is the Church will learn all they can from others experiences. I hope it wakes up the Church and we don't wait any longer. This book is so long over due in my life and I am so glad it's here NOW!! May it be passed down from generation to generations that they don't have to experience this, so unnecessary to repeat this in a Christian's life.

This book came as my answer to prayer in the midst of the most intense battle against fear and anxiety. Many tablets, doctors visits, deliverance sessions, psychologists and many tears later, I had lost all hope and was convinced that God didn't really love me and that all the prophetic words spoken over my life were a lie. Although I knew this was a spiritual battle, I didn't know how to fight it! This book changed all that. It overflows with the anointing and authority of God. I have read it twice now and a major shift has taken place in my life. Kris taught me that to live from a place of 'Sonship', resting in the perfect love of God is the key to overcoming. Kris shares humbly from his own personal experience which is so encouraging and he provides powerful keys and insight into overcoming the onslaught of the enemy. What a relief to know that this WILL pass. I HIGHLY recommend this book, not only to those battling against fear and anxiety, but to anyone who needs a real revelation of the Father heart of God.
