Children's LiteratureJoshua splishes and splashes through a day of watery fun in this story of a boy's adventures with his grandmother. The day begins when Joshua feeds the ducks by the river and then walks the dog in the country where they jump in all the puddles. Later while Granny does her shopping Joshua tries to climb into the fountain. After shopping, Granny and Joshua change to their bathing suits and go swimming. Granny in a colorful bathing cap follows Joshua to the top of the water slide and down they go until with a big "splash" they go into the "fizzing and sparkling" water. They emerge laughing and dripping. Again and again they climb up and then splash down to crash into the water. A heavy rain falls as they ride home on a red double-decker bus and the wheels splash through the puddles in the street. Joshua and Granny snooze to the rhythmic sound of the wipers. The illustrations are simple, bold, bright and eye-catching. 2004, Bloomsbury, Ages 3 to 5.
