Splat the Cat Takes the Cake is a Level One I Can Read book, which means it's perfect for children learning to sound out words and sentences. This book focuses on the phonics sound –ake. Phonics teaches children the relationship between letters and the sounds they make. A child who has mastered these relationships has an excellent foundation for learning to read and spell. According to the National Institute of Child Health & Human Development, a child who has learned phonics has a method to recognize familiar words and "decode" unfamiliar ones.

Great book! Does NOT go "splat"!

My grandson 4.5 years likes to hear the story over and over and over. He can almost 'read' it himself! Love the book. Great story.
