Pamela Bauer Mueller has found a captivating way to bring the legendary Jekyll Island Club to life-with vintage photos, meticulously researched details, carefully crafted dialogue, and four real-life narrators who escort readers behind the scenes.
For readers who love biographies and historical fiction, for people who enjoyed being "onboard" in the movie Titanic, and for those who savor classics, such as Miss Austen's novels, Splendid Isolation offers a fascinating glimpse of real life in a fun and informative read. What a joy to settle back, relax and look at photos of times past, as you read about what was possibly America's most exclusive club of all times.

Splendid Isolation is not only historical, but very entertaining. Pamela Bauer Mueller has accomplished the difficult feat of bringing characters from the past to life. This is a good read for anyone interested in all that was going on at the turn of the century when the Jekyll Island Club was built to its seeming end in the World War II era. The book evokes many mental images of what life was like on Jekyll Island and would make any reader want to plan a visit to this magical place! Was this review helpful? After reading this wonderful book I feel as though I just came back from a vacation with the Rockefeller"s.
The story is so well written that it seems as if an old friend is teling the tale & leaves you sorry that it ever has to end. The book is a great balance of both the stories of the rich & famous & the equally important tales of the regular folks who make life possible for them.
I am an avid reader & can hardley wait to find more of Ms. Mueller's work.

Find an isolated spot; sit down, stretch out and prepare to become splendidly taken back to a time of long skirts, dressing for dinner - and I mean, really dressing for dinner and yet you are still on vacation. Unless, that is, you are one of the employees. Ms. Mueller's book truly does give you a sense of "being there" all those years ago. I enjoyed it immensely and have recommended it to many friends who also got carried away in the drama and fun of these lives. Learn and Enjoy! Was this review helpful? I loved this book. I visited the island a couple of years ago and the
book captures the feel of the island perfectly. The club still stands
and is a tourist attraction due to all the important names that stayed
If you like this book, I also recommend "Hello, I Love You, Goodbye"
and "An Angry Drum Echoed (Another historical fiction novel set in
the same area)".

Splendid Isolation is a thoroughly enjoyable book. Pamela Bauer Mueller makes history come alive as she puts her own personal touch on Jekyll Island Millionaire Club facts with a great blend of fiction through the voice of four employees of prominent Club members. Who knew such an important detail of our country's history was created on a small island off the coast of Georgia? If you love history, interesting facts on important historical figures or just a good read this book is for you.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
