Familiar heroes and heroines get fancy in an array of interactive titles. Jane Simmons's lovable duck makes a splash in two Daisy First Jigsaw Books: Bouncy, Bouncy Daisy and Splish, Splash Daisy. Both paper-over-board books feature thick cardboard pages with four-piece puzzles embedded in each full-bleed spread. Youngsters can easily remove the pieces, and discover the corresponding illustration below.
Children's Literature
Daisy, an adorable yellow duck, is ready for adventure. She wants to explore the homes of other animals in the area. So she visits little chicks in their tiny hen house, piglets in their muddy pigsty, and lambs in their big meadow. After her tour, Daisy rejoins Mamma Duck in their wet home, which she likes best. At each stop, young children have a four-piece puzzle, which requires them to assemble the picture of the animal/animals Daisy is visiting. The simple puzzles turn this lovely board book into an activity book for the youngest children. Manipulating the large puzzle pieces will help promote gross motor skills. The basic text is age-appropriate and the watercolor illustrations are vibrant; they will appeal to toddlers and the adults reading the book to them. 2003 (orig. 2002), Little, Brown and Company, Pettenati
