Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Erik H VanIterson, M.S., M.Bio(University of Minnesota School of Kinesiology)
Description: This is the fourth edition of a book that brings together the latest findings in movement science and nutrition seamlessly and effectively for students and professionals in the movement health sciences.
Purpose: The objective of this latest edition is to provide readers with the same well-supported material on movement science and nutrition as the previous editions, but with the most current findings. It aims to bridge the gap between scholarly learning of the material and the application of its principles in practice.
Audience: The book is suitable for college-level students and professionals in allied health sciences fields. Some familiarity with basic concepts of physiology and biology is warranted for a quick understanding of many of the concepts built around basic theories in these fields. Professionals who may find this book useful in a day-to-day setting include physiotherapists, personal trainers, athletic trainers, sports medicine physicians, coaches, and professors.
Features: This book is logically organized and transitions well from one chapter to the next. However, the material can be effectively read by choosing sections of interest, if grounding in the information in preceding chapters is not needed. Numerous figures and pictures emphasize key points of interest and assist in explaining difficult textual concepts.
Assessment: This updated edition recommended for the study of sports and exercise nutrition. The authors are well respected in their fields and they reference the expertise of their colleagues. It should be in the library of anyone actively involved in the movement sciences.
