Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 4-6-- Most of this biography is devot ed to the highlights of Bird's professional basketball career, concentrating on some of his finer moments with the Boston Celtics. While Kavanagh jumps from game to game and year to year in a somewhat confusing manner, and the anecdotes concerning his subject off the court are far too few, he does mention the rough spots in Bird's life, which are often ignored or glossed over in books of this nature. Black-and-white action photos, seemingly from the Celtic archives, are scattered throughout. Although the superstar's playing days are winding down, his accomplishments have earned him a permanent place in basketball history; thus, interest in this title shouldn't wane as quickly as it does for those books about less-distinguished athletes. Career statistics are appended. --Tom S. Hurlburt, La Crosse Public Library, WI
