[A delightful package that will tweak that love of the strange that many young readers develop along with their fondness of sports. And as an added bonus, there’s enough obscure material in here to keep adults highly amused as well.

Children's Literature
This book describes strange events that have occurred in the world of sports. It is told from the perspective of a tour guide, who takes the reader through a series of creatively organized exhibits, such as the "Hall of Urinals," "Crazy Fans," and "Mischievous Mascots." Within each exhibit, odd or gross stories that correspond to the exhibit's theme are related. For instance, in the exhibit "Fowl Balls," the author details the story of a doubles tennis match during the Australian Open, in which a bird was killed by a ball hit by one of the players. In the exhibit, "Wacky Weather," the author relates the story of the 1975 Stanley Cup finals game between the Buffalo Sabres and Philadelphia Flyers that was played in a fog indoors. The humorous illustrations that accompany each story add to the overall zany feel of the book. Upper elementary and middle school age kids—particularly boys and sports fans—should enjoy this amusing look at weird events from the sports world. 2005, Kids Can Press, Ages 10 to 16.
