Purpose: The lead editor, Mark Miller, credits coeditor Jeff Konin, a leader in the field of athletic training, for the book's concept: a standalone resource that can be used by certified athletic trainers, physical therapists, orthopedic healthcare professionals, primary care providers, team physicians, and patients to understand problems, procedures, and the expected return to play. This is a unique approach and the book fills a specific need for athletic trainers, therapists, and patients. It also fills a gap in the knowledge of orthopedic professionals about primary care issues and of primary care physicians about orthopedic procedures.
