This is a fantastic book for the beginning knitter. The author goes over all the basics in a complete and explicit manner, including illustrations to further explain the tips. I would have loved to have this book when I was just starting out, and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase it for any knitter just learning. There are complete explanations of all basic stitches, and both the English and the Continental methods. There is an extensive stitch abbreviation dictionary in the back, which should prove very useful when deciphering patterns. But what's great about this book is that the author doesn't stop there. She includes a lot of tips that may seem random at first, but can save a lot of hassle if you know them before you make the mistakes, including information on swatching, stash-busting, and stitch-holding.
There were some tips and tricks that I found interesting and valuable as a more advanced knitter, but mostly I would say this is geared towards the knitter who has just picked up the needles.
Full disclosure: I received a free preview of the book in exchange for reviewing it. But the opinion given is all mine.
