Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
The back cover on this pop-up book claims that the spot "changes like magic" to different colors. Well, that's a stretch. The spots are a different color on the next page, where the other side of the same circle can be moved along a track. The tracks appear to be tubes from which the spots emerge, pulled by the child. The refrain of "Red spot, red spot come out to play/ red spot red spot, slip, slip away," is on every page, changing only in the color named. I am disappointed, and I imagine a child would be, too. The little tracks are interesting to a point, but there's just so little here. And the spots get stuck. No fun. 2001, Scholastic, $9.95. Ages 1 to 3. Reviewer: Janet Morgan Stoeke
