Editorial Reviews

Booknews
A text/CD-ROM package providing an introduction to the most commonly used management science techniques, showing how these tools can be implemented using Microsoft Excel. Unique features include use of algebraic formulations and spreadsheets together to develop conceptual thinking, emphasis on model formulation and interpretation rather than algorithms, and realistic examples with step-by-step instructions. Includes chapter questions, problems, and cases. The CD-ROMs contain trial and full versions of software, plus spreadsheet files. This edition offers new discussions of data envelopment analysis, genetic algorithms, simulation, and sensitivity analysis techniques. For students familiar with basic Windows and spreadsheet concepts. The author is affiliated with Georgia Southern University. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

The Useful Book I Have Ever Owned

As an energy consultant I am constantly required to solve complex problems for the top US energy companies. I have never found a book more useful, practical, and ultimately more valuable than this book. Although the concepts are very well developed and easy to understand, unless your interested in making tons of money solving optimization problems this book is not for you. In short, this is my favorite book of all time.

    Not recommended!!

This textbook was required for my Management Science class. I opened it once. Perhaps this was the fault of my professor, since our primary method of solving calculations were by hand rather than by Excel. Considering this textbook explained all concepts using Excel spreadsheets, it was useless and a waste of $100. The typefont was too small and compact - any type of interesting graphical layout or text were 1 in every 100 pages.
