Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Krisan Murphy
From the rain-drenched tulips to the portrayal of Seegwun, the young Ojibwa Indian spirit, the colorful pictures in this early reader book about spring are kid-friendly and inviting. Each page of the four-book series "World of Wonder Seasons" series about the seasons of the year asks a rhetorical question followed by a clear and simple answer. The children pictured in the book are enjoying the season and the brown bear cub is in its natural habitat. This is a science book in disguise for teachers looking for captivating reading and visuals. Global awareness is encouraged by descriptions of spring in other countries. The holidays of Easter and Passover and the celebrations of Mother's Day, April's Fool Day, and Earth Day are part of the author's presentation of the spring season. More difficult vocabulary words are presented in bold text with an easy-to-read glossary on the last page. A formula for planting spring seeds is a straightforward hands-on activity in the back of the book. Teachers and parents will appreciate the "Find Out More" page of interactive and educational websites for children. Reviewer: Krisan Murphy
