Overview

A tough Montana rancher tangles with a pretty doctor from the city.

Slate MacAllister, Montana rancher and veterinarian, will do anything to keep the land he loves from the man determined to wrest it from his control. But to protect the people he loves, he’ll risk his own life. When 3-year-old Mac becomes deathly ill in the middle of the worst blizzard in memory, Slate rides for the doctor—only to find a new doc, much too young and pretty to know anything about medicine.

Dr. Becky O’Donald made it through medical school despite the discouragement of her parents. Now the city girl is fighting her way out from under a mountain of student loan debt in a tiny Montana town, struggling to get used to more having horses and cows around than people. When she ends up cloistered in a sprawling ranch house with the handsome Slate, a sick little boy who looks just like him, and the boy’s lovely, fragile mother, Becky must deny her heart and focus on saving a life.

Slate is torn between worrying about his absent twin brother, what his enemy will try next, and his attraction to a woman who surely isn’t suited for life in rugged, rural Montana. But when he rides to her rescue, the two learn that together, they may just be stronger than the adversity they face.

Very enjoyable book, and free, but I hate the kind that leaves you hanging and having to buy the next one to find out what happens.

Curses! Must you insist upon reading another book before THIS one is resolved? No more of this nonsense.

This book was ok, was not fond of all the fill in junk to finally get it to  158 pages. This is the second  book I have read in the last week that ends with having to buy another book to finish the story. Authors should never do this to their readers. as far as the book goes it had a sweet story but too much about what they were wearing or how long it took to go down the road.

The story line was interesting but the book was too short. Combine all three books and fill out the stories of each character more and you have a better book.

Good story but disjointed and characters act like teenagers-needs a lot of work.

Not believable - treating a deep wolf bite in a clinic. Typical - the twin shows up and she doc lays one on him. Could see that coming when identical twins first mentioned. Then abrupt unfinished ending. Oh yeah - that's buy the next one.

Interesting characters, but hard to follow at times

It was a good book but I hate when they offer it free then leaves you hanging so u have to buy the next one if you want to finish the story.

The story had potential. The author's writing style was disjointed and at points so confusing that I actually skipped pages! I was disillussioned with the story and I will not pursue looking for the next cliffhanger nor will I look for anything else written by this author.

Had the potential to be a good story, but really poorly developed. A lot of extras that didn't add to the story, and some aspects just made no sense. This is the first time I have started a series and have no interest in finishing it.

Very poorly written and too predictable. Slow story development with too much extraneous "fluff" which does nothing to add to, clarify or help story line. Character development is plodding and almost non-existant. Interaction of characters is juvenile at best along with various conflict situations. Not interesting enough to read remaining books in the series.

This was so bad I couldn't finish it. Glad it was free.

Great free read but I really hate cliffhangers.

Only fair is a good description - I think I deleted this awhile ago and forgot, Finished it this time, but will probably delete it again.

I have to admit that this was not a really good book. It was for free so I had to try it, but I was not impressed with it at all. It was very slow and hard to get into. I was not that much impressed with the story line or characters. I don't think that I will be reading any more of this series.

Hate reading a book that doesn't give you a proper ending. It just stops and you're expected to buy the next book. Story isn't even interesting enough to make me want the next book.

The story line was ok. I was disappointed that the story ended so abruptly. Not enough romance, too many instances that involved emergency medical attention.

The story was good, it was hard to follow at times, confusing really. And the ending was just awful!

This was a good, fairly clran story, but the author left us waiting to read a little more, to put this story to its romantic end, but cleverly leading us to wantinting to read the next story. Left this way, I am not interested in her stories as she doesn't know how to write them correctly. She needs another editor!

To many things happening in a small time frame and an ending that really wasnt an ending. You have to read the next bookn in the series to finish the first book. Not impressed with the first book wont read the second.

Story was ok,but the writing was very odd at times. I would have forgiven that if the story hadn't left us hanging. I HATE THAT!!!!! It's a crappy way for the author to get you to buy the next book.

In a way, this is a complete story. However, there are some very strong indications that there is way more story to tell. What I am saying is that I can live the rest of my life without knowing the "rest of the story." But, I would enjoy reading the rest of the series. I enjoyed it quite a lot. At times I get frustrated when failure to communicate is the reason for angst. However, it is also very human. Great leading man and woman; strong woman, man of good character who is also handsome. (Are leading men evernUNattractive? Nope.) I will probably read this again, when I can buy the next one.

A 200 page free modern day cowboy romance book. A young doctor new to rural Montana finds a half frozen cowboy and his horse outside the smalltown medical clinic during a blizzard. One look and touch and she starts obsessing over him. The obsession she has is the theme of the book with some story of medical assistance, family rivalries, family abuse, and Montana weather thrown in as background. An excerpt is provided for next in 'Lace' series.
