Publishers Weekly

Green's bright, fast-paced third Eddie "Shaman Bond" Drood adventure (after 2008's Daemons Are Forever) opens with rumors of a traitor undermining the Drood family's efforts to guard humanity against paranormal and mystical threats. Complicating matters, legendary agent Arthur King is dying without an heir. Eddie joins a group of other agents in tackling King's challenge: solve five of mankind's greatest mysteries and learn King's secrets, including the traitor's name. Engaging, well-crafted quests take the team from Loch Ness to Roswell, where Eddie is forced to choose between saving humanity and recovering the information his family desperately needs. Though some supporting characters are clearly meant to be disposable, Eddie makes a likable hero, and fans will enjoy following him through this surprisingly complex mystery. (June)

Kirkus Reviews
The final installment in Green's urban-fantasy trilogy. This volume, which follows The Man With the Golden Torc (2007) and Daemons Are Forever (2008), again features the super-secret agent Eddie Drood (aka Shaman Bond), a member of a family that has protected humanity from the forces of darkness-monsters, vampires, aliens and the like-for two millennia. Drood is contacted by legendary Independent Agent Alexander King, who is on his deathbed. King wants to share his years of knowledge, but only with one of six secret agents, who must together solve five supernatural mysteries around the world. Drood, along with agents with names like Honey Lake and Lethal Harmony, are teleported to investigate the Loch Ness Monster, among other mysteries. As usual, the narrative moves at a fast clip and the sarcasm flows freely. Another action-packed melding of spy story and fantasy, featuring suave sleuthing, magical powers and a generous dash of dry wit.

    Predictable And Trite

This story's plot and outcome are predictable from the beginning of Eddie's quest. Only two things kept me reading: the participation of the delightfully droll and urbane Walker (from Green's Nightside series); and, the humorous, (occasionally witty), comments from Eddie and/or Walker. Besides Walker and Eddie, the other characters are shallow. plastic and dull. Further, the plot is a bit of a snore. I prefer a story which surprises, engages and/or challenges, not a tale about a trite competition solving a string of cliche mysteries. (Note, the more compelling mysteries which concern the identity of the Drood family traitor and the circumstances surrounding the death of Eddie's and Molly's respective parents are mentioned and, then, left unresolved.) If you like the series, I suggest you wait until this book comes out in paperback. The hardcover cost is too high a price to pay for this marginally entertaining tale.

    A superb investigative urban fantasy

The dedicated Drood family understands their mission is to protect mankind from paranormal assaults. However, there appears to be a traitor amidst the Drood brood; shaking the family to its core as none has ever betrayed the trust. Eddie "Shaman Bond" Drood vows to learn who the seditious agent is and the deadly duplicity one way or another.------------

However, Eddie is forced to put aside his personal quest as the fabled Arthur King is dying without an heir; forcing Eddie and several other agents to try to solve the King's riddles. Revealing five of humanity's most puzzling mysteries will lead to uncovering the King's secrets and to his surprise help identify the traitor.------------------------

The quests take Eddie and his intrepid team to some of the more famous mysterious locales like Roswell. However, the key to this superb investigative urban fantasy is the choices Eddie must make between resolving his family's needs and saving mankind from destruction. The mystery subplot is clever and fun to follow as that is the avenue Eddie travels in unlocking the King's secrets, but the stops along the way in which he is forced into several Hobson Choices make Simon R. Green's latest Brood crew thriller (see THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN TORC and DAEMONS ARE FOREVER) an excellent adventure.----------

    More crossover

I am adoring this series. I love that he is crossing over with his other books in it. Can not wait until I can get the next one. Now off to lunch and then to read one of my other birthday books. =)

Simon R. Green does it again.

Once agian we are thrown into the world of Eddie Drood aka Shaman Bond. This time he is joined by the CIA, a couple of indendents, and a well known from the Nightside.
As usual the story keeps you coming back for more, with the usual twists, turns, and general weirdness that Simon is known for.
A fun read that keeps you at the edge of your seat.

    More fun from the darkside

Funny, thought-provoking and an all around fun read. Haven't met a Darkside novel I didn't enjoy.

    Shaken not stirred

Simon Green continues what is turning out to be a very promising series (Secret Histories) with his third installment of the Drood family saga, "The Spy Who Haunted Me". This time the focus isn't soley on the inter-workings of the Drood family but more on what it means to be a spy in this world. Overall, I liked this book and was much more satisfied with Green's second try to integrate a character from the Nightside series. Walker was a great choice and how he keeps the Drood world and the Nightside apart actually makes sense. I would be interested in seeing John Taylor crossover and work with Eddie on a case. It does seem strange that the Drood family doesn't know much about the Nightside and what goes on there even though a lot that does happen there would normally attract their attention (ie. Lilith War). Mr. Green also keeps the readers that like to speculate what will happen in the series happy with little clues (what the Blue Fairy says about the torc) here and there that will most certainly play a major part throughout the rest of the series. He's almost Butcher-esque which bodes well as the series continues. If you are a Simon Green fan this is a must read and I would suggest this book to any sci-fi/fantasy fans.
