Overview

SS Canberra was the last ocean liner to be built by Harland & Wolff—builder of the Titanic—and she sailed on the P&O route to Australia, taking emigrants to the Antipodes. She was involved in the Falklands War and sailed directly in to the war zone to offload troops and take wounded soldiers back to the U.K., but it is her last years serving as a cruise ship for which she will be best remembered. In 1981 she carried fully half of all those sailing on a cruise from the UK. Illustrated with many unpublished photos, this is a captivating history of the "Great White Whale."
