Overview

What if WWII went the other way? In this alternative-history novel, Deighton imagines a chilling world where British Command surrendered to the Nazis in 1941, Churchill has been shot, the King is in the dungeon, and the SS are in Whitehall. In occupied Britain, Scotland Yard conducts business as usual...only under the command of the SS. Detective Inspector Archer is assigned to what he believes is a routine murder case--until SS Standartenführer Huth arrives from Berlin with orders from Himmler himself to supervise the investigation. Soon, Archer finds himself caught in a high level, action-packed espionage battle.

This is a spy story different from any other--one that only Deighton, with his flair for historical research and his narrative genius, could have written.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
‘A brilliant picture of Britain under German rule’ Sunday Telegraph‘One of Deighton’s best. Apart from his virtues as a storyteller, his passion for researching his backgrounds gives his work a remarkable factual authority.’ The Observer‘Len Deighton is the Flaubert of the contemporary thriller writers… there can be little doubt that this is much the way things would have turned out if the Germans had won the war.’ Michael Howard, Times Literary Supplement‘We have long admired Len Deighton as one of Britain’s finest thriller writers, so were very excited when asked if we would be interested in adapting SS-GB.’ Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, writers of Skyfall and SPECTRE

Meet the Author

Bestselling British author Len Deighton is known for his complex, nuanced espionage thrillers, beginning with his very first novel, The Ipcress File. Along with his contemporary, John le Carré, who also started his career in the early 1960s, Len Deighton transformed the spy novel by writing about the ways in which espionage can not only change the course of history, but how it can affect the morality and personal lives of the individuals involved.

Thisis a Scotland Yard murder mystery with a twist We're in London 1940 and the Nazis have occupied Britain. A murder that seems routine becomes less so when the Gestapo get interested, and the main character gets swept up in events that could influence the future of England. One of Deighton's best.
