Overview

This photographic keepsake by Bill Grant, celebrates a kaleidoscope of images that resonate the true spirit of the "Show Me State." St. Louis is a city with a distinct charm and personality and a passion for its heritage. With the Louisiana Purchase, it became a "Gateway to the West" for the pioneer spirit and expansion of the country. Images include the famous Gateway Arch, the Missouri History Museum, the fountains in Kiener Plaza, the old Capitol Building, Aloe Plaza, the world-class St. Louis Zoo, and the innovative style of the McDonnell Planetarium. Grant has also included images that reflect the roles of Louis and Clark, the railroads, the riverfront, and the state's veteran soldiers in the development of the city. Shots of the St. Louis Arts Museum, the Shakespeare Festival, and the Missouri Botanical Gardens with the world-renowned Chihuly exhibit, depict the impact of this city in the growth of America.

Meet the Author

Award-winning photographer, Bill Grant, loves to travel and photograph the beauty around him, whether it is Hawaii, Mexico, Canada or his home state of Missouri. Even though he has lived here for twenty-three years, Grant continues to be amazed by the beauty and allure of Missouri. He spent six months photographing St. Louis for this book, always hoping to capture one, single, visual image that would personify St. Louis; but, he found it impossible. As a result, St. Louis: A Photographic Portrait celebrates a kaleidoscope of images that ultimately captures this great city. Grant shot most of these photographs with his Canon 5D digital camera. His photographs have been published in various magazines, calendars and brochures.
