Stacie Orrico

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Lisa Zhito
The dance-pop diva aspirations of wunderkind Stacie Orrico bear full fruit on Stacie Orrico, the precocious singer's second release and her first to receive mainstream exposure. Full of lush grooves, easy melodies, and sparkling production, Stacie Orrico is lively and infectious. But Orrico parts company from the teen-pop clones with her thought-provoking message -- neither preachy nor especially religious, merely timely, it's nonetheless completely at odds with the bump-and-grind that currently dominates pop radio. Orrico has written or co-written an impressive total of eight songs here, introspective fare such as "More to Life," "Instead," and "That's What Love's ...

Orrico has written or co-written an impressive total of eight songs here, introspective fare such as "More to Life," "Instead," and "That's What Love's About," to name just three. Orrico stands poised to break out of the contemporary Christian music world in which she made her start, and she's made concessions to the mainstream here (love songs addressed to "You" instead of God, for example), but the depth showcased on this album is bound to impress pop and Christian music fans alike. As first single "Stuck" racks up airplay on MTV's TRL, the rest of Stacie Orrico shows that this teen singer is no one-hit wonder.
All Music Guide - Steven Douglas Losey
Stacie Orrico re-emerges with an eponymous album. On her second full-length disc to adopt her moniker, Orrico brings an edgier, R&B-soaked groove to the table that's undeniably grown up. Following a gold debut that boasted accolades, the new disc is richer in texture. With production help from veterans like Dallas Austin Pink, TLC and Virgin CEO Matt Serletic Santana, Matchbox Twenty it's no wonder the release permeates crossover appeal. Tunes like the dancefloor-envious "Stuck" and the moving "I Could Be the One" are evidence of the rise Orrico took since her debut. Vocally the opus stretches her talents by delving into several tempo and mood changes that the 17 year old embraces like a seasoned veteran. While not abandoning the Christian roots of cuts like "There's Gotta Be More to Life," there is evidence of lyrical strength in the midst of diva attitude. Listening to the slower cuts offered up here is sweet reward. Tunes like "I Promise" and "Strong Enough" are different styles that both have Orrico singing like a mixture of Beyoncé and Celine Dion. The astounding thing about the disc is that the grooves drip of dancefloor sweat, maturity, and soulfulness while maintaining integrity and purity from America's newest diva
ole model.

What would I do without your music

This c.d. is her best one yet! She cleverly combines pop and R&B to create a uniquely refreshing sound! I listen to this c.d. everyday because not only is it fun to listen to, it is also encouraging! The bottom line is you can't lose with Stacie!

don't get me wrong i love your cd but the first two songs I didn't here anything about God in them but the other songs were cool. You got to be representing God in every song that you do. Don't fall into the things of the world. We are in the world but not of the world.Stand strong!!! Ilove all your music. God bless you.

    Postive vibes

Well where to start? This girl has an amazing vocal talent and i really love the style of music she choses to do...Its both positive and helpful. I really believe her music can help others...even though i dont particularly believe in God her music send out a message of hope. Strong enough has beautiful lyrics and her voice really shines through on it. There's gotta be more...is such a beautiful song and stuck is addictive by itself. An album worth investing in.

    I love this CD!

Go Stacie!! This is one of the best cd's I own. I love her music; her talent to write original music with meaning is outstanding! The songs are not all the same, which is what I really look for in a cd.

    Stacie Orrico!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really like this CD. My two favorite songs on this CD are Stuck and There's Gotta Be More to Life. They're really catchy (in a good way) and I got them STUCK in my head. After just a few times of listening to these songs I memorized them and love listening to them over and over! The tunes are catchy and the words are interesting while also being clean and fun.

    Stacie Power!

Stacie Orrico for the longest time was unheard of. When her Genuine CD came out she was just that 15 yr old Christian girl. I absolutely loved that CD. She has become more well known despite her Christianity which is expressed in her music. I, as a Christian think that it is so awesome that her songs are being played on more radio stations than just Contemporary Christian stations. Some people think that just because her record label is not Christian, Stacie has lost her roots. She hasn't, she should be able to appeal more to the general population and still be a Christian artist. Her songs are Christian, and I for one think that is awesome. The eighteen yr old guy who wrote a review about Stacie crossing over into the secular world is not correct. She is only trying to make her message reach to everyone. Go Stacie, Go!

    Cool CD!

Stacie Orrico is cool. This is a great album. I would buy it if they sold it in the United Kingdom, they don't but I can still listen to the music on the Internet and it is one cool album. This music is easy to relate to and enjoyable to listen to.

This is an awesome CD and if people do not understand the concept of the CD they need to write Stacie and ask her. Her CD is straight up JC and does not always have to present the name of Jesus, but this CD is more so about life in general. If you hear me! Good job on the CD.

    a defense and an explanation

i first heard stacie orrico's music when her first album, "genuine," was released. i wasn't too impressed due to its overly-packaged pop sound and often-trite lyrics. i was, however, encouraged and impressed with her ability to reach the teenage demographic with her outright and very obvious message of God's love and His relevance to this generation. i wasn't surprised when not too many people knew about her because she was, in fact, under the "christian" genre. like what many people have been saying (and opposing) in these reviews, stacie orrico has crossed over into mainstream/secular music. i believe, as an 18-year-old guy who tries to stay somewhat in touch with "pop culture" for the sake of knowing what's going on, that stacie orrico is facing the dichotomous situation of portraying a christian message while appealing to the widest audience possible. something i read that was quoted by another christian genre-turned-secular genre artist was that, as christians, they can either continue to give water to the quenched or bring water to the thirsty. i think that stacie is doing a great job bringing the water to those who are thirsty with positive messages that conjur self-examination through thought-provoking lyrics. as christians, we are not the ones that cause the plant to grow - we allow the Lord to do that; our role is just to plant the seed. stacie is planting seeds. as in most cases, change (or the realization of the need for one) starts with reflection, which is what stacie's music encourages. rather than egging on banal-yet-omnipresent messages of looking perfect, hating enemies, or wallowing in one's unfavorable situation, stacie lyrics provide a refreshing approach to life's difficulties. she is introducing non-christians to the door but not forcing them through. i believe that at least pointing them in the direction of the door is better than shoving them through it, if that. by staying with orthodox "christian" lyrics - lyrics expected from a christian-genre artist - those who do not know where/what/who the door is would probably not be exposed to the possibility of something better and infinitely fulfilling. stacie is honest with her music, singing of common teenage issues that even the godliest of young women endure. for those bagging on "stuck" for its supposed message of "boys above God," dive deeper and see that she is, in fact, attempting to get out of an unhealthy relationship, or in other words, a change for the better. i really don't think stacie has abandoned her faith and is, in fact, doing what she has been called to do. so, to wrap it all up.. christians who are skeptical of this album: stacie is bringing water to the thirsty, or, at the very least, allowing people to realize that there is water. that's a good thing. so much music these days paints a portrait of a stagnant life with the only changes coming through material or sensual means. stacie offers a refreshing (and radically counter-cultural) point of view. non-christians who are skeptical: staice realizes she's mainstream now and wants you to hear her music. her lyrics are positive and laid back, yet concurrently catchy and definitely not corny. if anything, this album should have been called "genuine" becasue it really is. totally phat beats don't hurt either.
