In this fourth book, Ed goes to sign up for the bowling league, but accidentally signs up for a playwriting contest instead. Ed and his friends write a VERY wacky play that stars a hamburger, a moose, a ninja, and even a pirate mouse! While performing the play, Ed's powers as the Stranger make things in the Looniverse turn more than a little loony! Ed scrambles to stop the strangeness before it's too late.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Praise for LOONIVERSE #2: MELTDOWN MADNESS
"Liberally endowed with jokes, twists and comical line drawings, the tale scrambles its way energetically to a chocolaty resolution." -KIRKUS REVIEWS

Praise for PUNISHED!
"This lighthearted fantasy would be an excellent classroom read-aloud. The language concepts are deftly explained and the clever, wordplay-filled dialogue provides numerous examples. There is an emphasis on problem-solving and self-reliance as well... [Young readers] will howl at the atrocious puns and repeat them at the earliest opportunity. Be prepared for an epidemic of juvenile punsters." -SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL

"Wordplay is at the heart of this funny, surreal adventure in which even the title is a pun...An appealing mix of magic and silliness." -BOOKLIST

Children's Literature - Shirley Nelson
As Ed is walking home from school with his younger brother, he is reminded of how his life has changed since he found the coin known as the Silver Center. If he is not very careful, strange, magical things happen when he speaks. For example, when he says “Time flies,” his new watch flies off his wrist and disappears. Ed’s life becomes even more complicated when he and his friends enter a play-writing contest. The winners will have their play performed in the new amphitheater on opening night. When Ed realizes this is the same night as the Blue Moon, he panics and tries to lose the contest. But, of course, they win. On the days leading up to the performance, Ed is very careful to avoid any traditional sayings that might turn literal. However, Mr. Sage, owner of the New Curiosity Shop, tells him that by holding the magic in, Ed is simply making matters worse. Now Ed is terrified of what might happen on performance night. As with others in the “Looniverse” series, the antics of Ed and his friends are quite entertaining. The black and white illustrations add to the humor of this easy-to-to read chapter book. Reviewer: Shirley Nelson; Ages 6 to 9.
