New York, New York, U.S.A. 1989 Hardcover Very Good in Very Good jacket Larger 8vo. pp. 197, lengthy ink inscription on the front free endpaper, o/w very good, "The original ... Globe theater, for which Shakespeare wrote most of his greatest plays, was burnt down in a fire in the 17th century. It is now being rebuilt on the original site in London and will be completed by 1992. For the first time, modern playgoers will be able to experience Shakespeare's plays under the same conditions as an Elizabethan audience. This fascinating book brings the original Globe to life: the audiences, how the plays were performed, the history of Shakespeare's company, and more. It also tells the story of how the long dream of rebuilding the Globe has finally come to fruition, giving a detailed description of the new theater complex, which will include exhibitions that re-create London's Elizabethan history. Includes 50 black-and-white and eight color illustrations." Read more Show Less

Editorial Reviews

Booknews
Certainly a lighting specialist should be in charge, says Reid, but everyone involved with a stage production should know something about lighting. Drawing on his four decades as a professional lighting designer, he discusses some of the possibilities of lighting and how they can be turned into reality under practical stage conditions. He incorporates current technology, including design computers talking directly to light boards, but focuses on the principles that have made the earlier editions staples. The 1976 first was published by Pitman, and the four between 1982 and 1996 by A & C Black. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
