Editorial Reviews

From The Critics
Reviewer: Olesya Krivospitskaya, MD(University of Chicago Medical Center)
Description: Dedicated to improving the general understanding of diabetes management, this book is divided into three major parts: an introduction to staged diabetes management, treatment of diabetes, and diabetes complications in hospital settings. This update of the 2006 edition is consistent with the most recent national recommendations regarding diabetes management and has current information about novel therapies for diabetes, such as the use of DPP-4 inhibitors and GLP-1 agonists.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide an update on a systematic approach to preventing, detecting, and treating diabetes using the most recent recommendations based on national guidelines. These are worthy objectives and this book will be very helpful for all healthcare providers treating patients with diabetes.
Audience: The book is written for healthcare providers involved in the management of patients with diabetes. The authors are well known in the field of diabetes management and research.
Features: The best thing about this book is that it has multiple tables, algorithms, and illustrations that help to demonstrate general principles in diabetes management. All references appear at the end of each chapter, which makes it easy to find a particular one. The book is without any significant shortcomings and it will be very helpful for all healthcare providers working with diabetic patients.
Assessment: This is an excellent source of general information about diabetes management. It uses an illustrative approach to deliver information with multiple tables and algorithms. The book is extremely useful for healthcare providers treating patients with diabetes. This edition is particularly important in light of the ongoing research in diabetes management, new medications, and changing guidelines.
