Overview

A high-tech researcher determined to disprove Christianity. A caring doctor in a state of panic. A young woman deceived and dying. They all bear the wounds of darkness. At what cost comes the cure?

The newspapers in and around town are shouting the question: Is he a hero, a murderer, or a fool?

Dr. Seth Berringer is wondering himself. In desperation he tried to take things into his own hands—and now those hands are stained with blood.

He's caught in a cover-up with worldwide scientific and spiritual implications. And only the truth can set him free.

Fiction as real as the dark impulses of the human heart

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Dr. Seth Berringer works for a large managed-care provider in his hometown of Deer Falls. When Seth comes across the dead body of Lisa Dale, he erroneously thinks one of his troubled patients has acted out his fantasy of raping Lisa. In a panic lest he be sued, Seth removes the body to another location, making her death look like a hit and run. Unbeknownst to Seth, Lisa was pregnant and participating in a DNA cloning experiment supposedly using Jesus' blood from the Shroud of Turin. Seth's foolish actions bring about more confusion and death. Only Kerri Barber, a trauma nurse who believes in Seth's innate goodness, stands by him and tries to imbue him with her faith. The premise of Kraus's (Fated Genes, LJ 4/1/96) story is far from believable, especially Seth's bizarre conduct, and the book never falls into place. I remain hooked on Dr. Kraus' books! He is able to pull off amazing, thought-provoking concepts in a way that is relatable and non-imaginary. This is one of those books that in five years, will pop into my head and I will, momentarily, recall as fact, rather than fiction.

I could not put it down. One of the best reads I have stumbled upon lately. I lost sleep gladly.
