Overview

Gossip Girl meets Hollywood in this new series by That Boy author, Jillian Dodd.

Keatyn has everything she ever dreamed. Her life is following the script she wrote for the perfect high school experience. She’s popular, goes to the best parties, dates the hottest guy, and sits at the most-coveted lunch table.

She’s just not sure she wants it anymore.

Because, really, things aren’t all that perfect.
Her best friend is threatening to tell everyone her perfect relationship is a scam.
Her perfect boyfriend gets drunk at every party they go to.
It’s exhausting always trying to look and act perfect.
And, deep down, she isn’t sure if she has any true friends.

To add to the drama, her movie star mom has a creepy stalker.
A hot, older man flirts with her and tells her they should make a movie together.
And she’s crushing on an adorable surfer. Dating him would mean committing social suicide.

So she writes a new script. One where all the pieces of her life will come together in perfect harmony.
But little does she know, there's someone who will do anything to make sure that doesn’t happen.

*This book is for mature teens only.

Eating, Reading, And Dreaming - Morgan Maulden
I LOVE Jillian Dodd! I LOVE Jillian Dodd! I LOVE Jillian Dodd!
Jillian Dodd's first two novels That Boy and That Wedding are out-of-this-world amazing. If you haven't read them yet then they definitely belong at the top of your to-read list! Her latest novel Stalk Me, the first novel in a brand new series called The Keatyn Chronicles, also deserves a spot on that list because it's nothing short of AMAZING. Both series are completely UNIQUE! They are unlike each other and unlike anything I've

Jillian Dodd still has my socks!

She knocked them off with That Boy & That Wedding and has decided not to give them back! I was a little worried before jumping in. I mean what if she comes down with a big case of suck!? It could happen!!! It. Did. Not. Happen. Now Jillian Dodd has my socks and my knickers!

This book blew a fresh breath of different in all the right places. It was totally not what I expected! Speaking of...if you're expecting Stalk Me to be exactly like That Boy

    LOVED IT!!!

Having just finished reading Taking Chances by Molly McAdams, and being totally obsessed with her characters, I went into this book looking for a distraction, but thinking that it probably wouldn't do it for me. I was wrong. It drew me in slowly. At first, I was annoyed by Keatyn's shallowness, and I couldn't really identify with her, I feel like she matured during the course of the story, and eventually won me over. Cush, on the other hand, had me from the start. I laughed out loud a lot, and while I anticipated a few of the plot twists, I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and I can't wait for the next one. I'm dying to find out what happens with the God of all hotties.

    Will not disappoint!

I was really excited to read this book and it didn't disappoint!! I enjoyed Keatyn and her high school drama and getting to know her. Lots of action going on in this book! I'm definitely excited to see where the second book takes her! The sneak peek at the end of the book got me extra hooked and I can't wait!!

Rating: Chaser: Although this book was a little too young for me

Rating: Chaser: Although this book was a little too young for me, it still has a ‘fabulous’ story to tell.

I met Jillian Dodd at the LA Author event and she’s been super helpful in giving us tips on how to be a book review blog. Before we became bloggers, I would see The Keatyn Chronicles in The Kindle Store, but never clicked on them because the cover girl scared me. Seriously, I thought it was a Barbie at first.

The main character and angry Barbie covergirl is Keatyn. Keatyn is a sixteen year old sophomore living in Malibu, California. Keatyn is the daughter of a famous movie star mom and deceased father. Her mom found a new love with a action movie star and had four daughters, but never married. Their relationship is a classic love a first sight fairy tale, and I believe that is where Keatyn gets the premise for her own love life.

Keatyn mentally scripts out every aspect of her life. Raised on movie sets, she has become familiar with how manipulate the situation to get the individuals or characters to follow her unwritten script.

(He kisses her and throws her on the bed. They kiss passionately, and then he ravishes her body. She can’t think or speak; she’s so overwhelmed by his touch. He strips off her bikini then they make love.)… (Or maybe they have sex. Whichever one would be hotter.)…(Probably sex.)
Dodd, Jillian (2012-08-20). Stalk Me (The Keatyn Chronicles #1) (Kindle Location 878). Bandit Publishing. Kindle Edition.

Keatyn and the vapid girls she unfortunately thinks are her friends have a seriously distorted view of relationships; be it friends, love or social. One friend insists the moves Keatyn makes with her relationship directly reflect her social standing.

Keatyn wants to fill the role of ‘prince charming’ in her life/script and hops around from boy to boy to see if they fit her casting.  I found this issue disturbing for a girl her age, and her mom’s nonchalant parenting is simply because ‘love’ is an aspect.  I seriously wanted to reach into the book and shake this mom.  What does a sixteen year old know about love.  Ohh, I could feel the emotion building in me to see if Keatyn could make it to adulthood uncorrupted.  Even though she wants to act like an experienced woman, she often finds herself in situations that remind you that she is just a girl looking for a boyfriend.

“You’ll be gone for a year?” I ask incredulously. Because he’s not asking me to go out with him. He’s leaving me. He goes on and on about the waves he surfed and how they varied, but I’m not really listening. All I keep thinking is He’s leaving me for a year.
Dodd, Jillian (2012-08-20). Stalk Me (The Keatyn Chronicles #1) (Kindle Location 3938). Bandit Publishing. Kindle Edition.

Keatyn’s love life obsession takes a back seat when her mom’s adoring ‘creeper’ becomes hostile.  For her safety, Keatyn is sent away to boarding school to start over again.

Millie, Mom, Tommy, and Mr. Moran, who are all in the business of making movies, are sitting at the kitchen table throwing around fake lives like dollar bills at a strip club. I pretend to scan the fridge for food, but instead I’m listening to their cringe worthy ideas. I swear, they want my life to be some bad teenaged sitcom. We should all thank God that they’re not writers. Hollywood would go down in flames.
Dodd, Jillian (2012-08-20). Stalk Me (The Keatyn Chronicles #1) (Kindle Location 5728). Bandit Publishing. Kindle Edition.

The fact that she is an immature girl, living in an abnormal living situation, trying to portray a mature woman is epitomized by her obsession with material things and flitting back and forth between who she thinks she is as a person. Is she Miss Popularity? Is she a laid back sufer girl? She uses sexual relationships to chisel away at her wants and needs in order to find herself.

High school is a lot trickier than I ever imangined, and it sorta sucks sometimes. It’s hard to juggle what your friends want, what your parents want, and what the guys want, and still get what you want. Especially when you’re not sure anymore what you want.
Dodd, Jillian (2012-08-20). Stalk Me (The Keatyn Chronicles #1) (Kindle Location 134). Bandit Publishing. Kindle Edition.

But here’s the clincher… I want to know more. I want to know what happens to Keatyn and her family. I want to know how she’s going to keep going, living such distorted life.  I believe deep down that ‘things’ stop becoming important and people are able to make an positive impact in her life.  I want to know who these people will be.

The Keatyn Chronicles include Stalk Me, followed by Kiss Me, Date Me, Love Me (expected release 8/13) and Hate Me (expected release 12/13).

    More Keatyn Quotes:

“I love you, Keats. Even if it’s just as friends.”
“So where does the sex fit in?” I asked.
    “With the love,” he said.
“You make it sound so simple. It’s just not that simple.” Because we all know now. It is not that simple.
“Yeah, it is. You complicate it by trying to make it fit into a box, so you can update your Facebook status. A relationship should be defined by your feelings not by a status.”
Dodd, Jillian (2012-08-20). Stalk Me (The Keatyn Chronicles #1) (Kindle Location 5877). Bandit Publishing. Kindle Edition.

** A new ‘favorite quote’ of mine!

It takes everything I have to let go of his hand when I shake it.
    My hand belongs in his.
    Forever.
    Don’t laugh. I’m serious.
    It belongs in his forever.
Dodd, Jillian (2012-08-20). Stalk Me (The Keatyn Chronicles #1) (Kindle Location 6447). Bandit Publishing. Kindle Edition.

He laughs. This laugh is deep and sexy. It’s kind of a growl.
    Grr, baby, grr.
    Yeah, I didn’t say that.
Dodd, Jillian (2012-08-20). Stalk Me (The Keatyn Chronicles #1) (Kindle Location 6458). Bandit Publishing. Kindle Edition.

“So, Sander, I hate to do this, but I’m breaking up with you. I will post it on Facebook for the world to see. I hope you understand.”
“But sweetheart, I will die without you. You are my one true love. Now I have nothing. I will sink into the dark blackness of oblivion without you.”
    “That might be overkill.”
Dodd, Jillian (2012-08-20). Stalk Me (The Keatyn Chronicles #1) (Kindle Location 776). Bandit Publishing. Kindle Edition.

Cute book. Fun read. The storyline makes you feel as though your really in the main characters head. The story is captivating. I like the fashion descriptions and bolder Keatyn toward the end. Book #2 is KISS ME and is already available, in fact the whole series is out. On to the next! I do recommend this book.

Stalk Me was a fun read set in high school. Keatyn is a popular girl going out with a popular guy and hanging out with the popular crowd.
Through Keatyn's eyes we get to see her life as a surfer chick, a high school/popular girl and Abby Johnston's daughter. Keatyn lives her
life as a movie script. The book portrays high school drama angst through friendships, boyfriends including heartbreaks really well. I
thought the pacing of the story was good. Some parts I did predict, but I still enjoyed reading this book. I definitely recommend this book.
So all in all I would give this book 4.5 stars.

    3.5 stars

Did I enjoy this book: This book was alright. It kept me interested and reading but it took awhile to get through.

Like I said, Stalk Me kept me interested enough to see what would happen next and how this story would end. I do want to see what happens next as well. I will be reading Kiss Me. There were some exciting parts, some parts that made me smile, some that had me laughing, even a few *SQUEEEEE* moments.

However, there were also parts that had me shaking my head in disbelief. I cannot imagine a 16 year old getting served alcohol at hotels, bars, pretty much anywhere. I cannot imagine a parent allowing their 16 year old basically live on her own, stay out to all hours, sleep over at boys' houses. I grew up very differently. That was hard to wrap my head around.

With that being said, I liked the characters. Keatyn was funny, different, she really tried to be a good person. Did she get caught up with the wrong friends sometimes? Yes. Did she make bad choices? Yes. Did she stand up to her friends? Yes. Did she listen to her instincts? On occasion, yes. She was a typical 16 year old girl...with a few exceptions (those mentioned above). Brooklyn seemed like a good guy. I think he used Keatyn but he's young, too. (Not that that is an excuse, but it does account for some of his behavior.)

Sander ended up how I thought he would. He seemed like a sweet boy. Cush was adorable. A player? Yes. But adorable. Vincent...ew. I didn't like him from the moment I met him. Keatyn's mom and step-dad were there but not really.

Would I recommend it: If you like contemporary YA books, as well as light reads, then I would recommend this book.

Will I read it again: I will not. However, I will read Kiss Me, book #2 on the Keatyn Chronicles.

When I started reading Stalk Me, I was told that this book and series is a total guilty pleasure. They were right. Stalk Me was...completely crazy, and a lot of fun. The blurb describes it as Gossip Girl-meets-Hollywood and that is very accurate. I would also add in that the story includes a hefty helping of Mean Girls, too.

Did I like Stalk Me? Yes, I did and I'm a little surprised because the main character, Keatyn is boy-crazed, appearance-obsessed, and more than a little flighty. I could compare her to Cher in Clueless. [ FYI: If you do not know this movie I want you to go away right now.] Keatyn is a girl of privilege, and she leads a life that ninety-nine percent of us could never relate to. I'm talking about a sixteen year-old who parties like a rockstar, drinking, surfing, and kissing her way around the world. She seems to have Hot Boy ADD, going back-and-forth between the two to three guys she claims to love. I'm going to just chalk the insanity up to her age and the Hollywood lifestyle. Like I said, total guilty pleasure.

Stalk Me was fun, with all of the partying, kissing, and social scene shenanigans. I will say that if you don't like characters who make mistakes, sometimes act like jerks, and lead a completely insane lifestyle, then I'm not sure you will enjoy the book. It is exactly like watching a CW show. If you're looking for characters whose lives resemble yours, you won't find it here.

BUT, The story is totally fun, and cute, and charming. Despite the fact Keatyn leads a crazy extravagant lifestyle, she is essentially a girl who wants to be liked for who she is, not for who her family is. She wants to be accepted, liked, and she wants a boy to fall in love with her for all the right reasons. And really, who can't relate to that.
