Excerpt

Vlad followed the epicenter of what he was feeling more than fifty blocks south. He got close enough to see that it was, in fact, a person he was sensing. A man in a dark blue shirt. An actually 1 blue shirt, not faded like all the other clothes he’d seen for the past week. The man didn’t seem particularly concerned with Vlad’s presence. At least, he didn’t show any obvious reaction. If he could sense the teenager he wasn’t worried about it.

They were about half a block apart when the man turned into the building Vlad was now watching. As soon as he’d walked into the building the sense of power had disappeared like it was cut off. Not fading away, just gone.

Fifteen minutes passed and Vlad hadn’t moved. There was a complex web of cords faintly treading through the walls of the building. He guessed they were why he couldn’t sense the man any more. The web probably acted like some kind of insulation. From what he could see it was immensely complex and used all six elements. He’d just figured out how to combining more than one element into a singe effect that morning. He still didn’t have a name for the sixth element. Not one he was willing to use.

In that building there was a man like him. One who had the same kind of power that he did. He didn’t know what to do with that. Considering what Vlad could already do, someone with the same kind of power could be very dangerous. After a week of playing on his own he could probably take out an army. What could he do with years of practice? Besides the immediate physical dangers, like death, what if whoever was in there didn’t want to have anything to do with him? You didn’t insulate something you wanted to advertise. And if he was willing to talk, what kind of price would he demand? The possibilities were literally endless. Thanks to more than a little of his mother’s neurotic paranoia all the bad ones came to mind first.

While considering whether or not he was coming off like a stalker he felt a tap on the shoulder.
