Overview

This comprehensive course is designed for intermediate to advanced students of Arabic at upper undergraduate level. It uses authentic materials and a wide variety of techniques to develop the four basic language skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. Each of the twenty chapters is designed around a particular topic relating to the culture, history, politics, geography or society of the Arab Middle East, to give students an insight into important aspects of the region.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"This is a welcome addition to the limited pool of textbooks that can be used to teach modern standard Arabic in general and advanced Arabic in particular. The work seems to be a result of great efforts by the authors based on their personal experiences teaching the language in academic institutions...The topic-based selection of texts makes it very attractive" Religious Studies Review

    Perfect for a linguist...

I highly recommend this book if one wishes to pursue a career in interpreting or translation as I have. This book, and the Beginner-Intermediate book provided me with the foundation to achieve a high degree of fluency in the Arabic language. Unfortunately, this book, and its sister book requires the assistance of an Arabic-speaking person/instructor, preferably from an Arabic-speaking country. I am attempting to write the United Nations Arabic interpreting exam, and this book has helped me greatly to prepare for it. A good buy!
