    I Also Recommend:

    Standard Vocal Literature

Standard Vocal Literature Soprano was recommended to me by my voice coach. I bought the book for my singing lessons and I thoroughly enjoy it. Since purchasing the book, I have learned three of the songs and from my experience, the song choices are great. I especially love how the book includes songs in English, Italian, Spanish, German, & French which provides a healthy balance. There are 30 songs however the CD includes additional tracks that help you learn the pronunciation of the foreign languages. The songs vary in difficulty and style including both art songs and operas/operettas and I think it is a perfect balance of styles. I think this book was an excellent choice as an introduction to opera singing and to gain experience singing in foreign languages. I also think this book is a great complement to the other songbooks that I use for my voice lessons (names listed under "I also recommend"section). My only complaint is that as a beginner, it is difficult to hear the melody in the accompaniment track so keyboard skills may be needed, however it is a good choice for auditions.
