Overview

Shannon McKenna's first thriller, Behind Closed Doors, brought readers a passionate, intense hero like no other: Seth Mackey. His dark sensuality and thirst for revenge concealed the secrets of his past -- secrets that only his mysterious partner, Connor McCloud, understood. Like Seth, Connor has been scarred by betrayal and tested by searing desire -- for a woman who tempts him beyond reason...a woman who is now the bait in a deadly trap Connor is unable to resist....

Ex-FBI agent Connor McCloud can never forget the day he was set up to die at the hands of trusted friend and fellow agent Ed Riggs. Hard justice and loyalty to his badge have cost Connor what he wants most -- Ed's shy, studious daughter Erin. He can never have her now, but her beauty still haunts and torments his every waking hour and his most fevered erotic dreams. But now that his old enemy Kurt Novak has returned, Connor is prepared to do anything to protect the vulnerable young woman from a killer who has vowed a brutal payback...a killer with a predator's lethal patience.

Erin has been harboring secret fantasies about Connor McCloud since she first laid eyes on him -- but that was before his testimony sent her father to jail. Her world is falling apart and it's all she can do to hold her family together. But now Connor is knocking on her door, telling her she needs his protection, whether she wants it or not. He won't give up and he won't stay away. He's sworn to guard her life with his own and his fierce protectiveness awakens long-buried feelings -- and a fiery sexuality deep within her soul...

The Barnes & Noble Review
Ex-FBI agent Connor McCloud, the mysterious partner of Behind Closed Doors hero Seth Mackey, takes center stage in this action-packed romantic thriller. The son of an abusive father, Connor knows all about anger, revenge, and the value of concealing his emotions. Ironically, he is falling hard for Erin, the daughter of the fellow agent and former friend who betrayed Connor and cost him his badge. When Connor learns of a complex conspiracy targeting Erin, he rushes to protect her -- only to be distracted by their quickly developing affair. While the lovers' erotic fantasies may be fulfilled, someone else has a far crueler fantasy in mind for Erin and Connor. Ginger Curwen

    Awesome series

This series incorporates mystery, action, intense characte2rs, and well done sex scenes. This is the 2nd in the series-hopefully there is at least 1 or 2 more. Connor McCloud is the first of the brothers to "meet" his match and his story is a great introduction to the McCloud family dynamic. Couldn't wait to read the rest of the series!

    Good, but slow start

The first two thirds of this book was the two main characters getting to know each other in bed. The remainder of the story finally picked up and got interesting. It kept your interest but was a slow start.

    Great sequel

Loved the first book (behind closed doors) and loved this one too. The two were steamy love stories in a solid thriller. Well written and engaging. Read reviews saying that love scenes were too long. They were long but it made sense for the intense characters and the high adrenaline scenes. I actually liked them a lot and thought them integral to the storyline and character development. Great read.

    Dont bother

    ## Don't bother with this series. It's rediculous how badly these "heroes" (NOT) treat these women. The sex is hot but because these men are so awful it ruins the romance (what little there is). Not recommended.

    Really, really good!

I read the prior story about Seth and Raine and thoroughly enjoyed their story. Connor and Erin's story was just as good, if not better! It had just the right amount of mystery, intrigue, humor and hot sex to keep you glued to your seat, or maybe in others'cases, in the bed! Really enjoyable . . . definitely a keeper!

Have not read this book yet, still searching this book, went to 2 B&N bookstores close to my place and they are out of stock.
I am now an addict to McKenna's books. I've read 3 books of hers, and Fade to Midnight is my favorite.

    Don't waste your money.

I read the first book in this series and gave it two stars. Occasionally the second in a series is better but not in this case. The characters seemed very childish to me and the love scenes were repeatedly the same. I could not even finish it, something I almost never do.

2nd to worst book I have ever read

At least half of this book was unreadable. Plot was good but lost in the sex scenes which were way over done (some 10 pages or more)

Will not ever buy another book by this author.

    I Also Recommend:

ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK!! CONNER AND ERIN ARE GREAT TOGETHER.

I really loved the characters in this book, and the dialogue was great. I love to read books that give you the full range of emotions and this one does. Connor and Erin have a long history together, and I liked that they had history instead of just meeting and falling in love it makes the story more believable. The random characters poping up here and there could be a little disorienting, but in the end you get it. I loved the comical direction the "mother-in-law" took, because at first she was just a depressing character. Barbara was at her best when she wheedled Connors cane, and the way her relationship with Connor developed was hilarious. The sex scenes were great in this book and I loved that Erin was the one to seduce instead of Connor. I like to read strong female lead characters and not the wilting flower. I wish the end would have elaborated more and given one more really hot scene, but I guess that's what sequels are for. I love all of Shannon Mckenna's books and will continue to be an avid reader of hers. I highly recomend this series to anyone over 18 that enjoys the thriller/romance genre. All in all great read and will read many more times.

    Standing in the Shadows

This was not my first Shannon McKenna book. I have loved everything I have read from her but I was a little disappointed in this one and I'm not sure why. Where her other stories have grabbed me and wouldn't let me put it down, keeping me completely interest the entire time this one kind of slowed down in the middle and took me longer to read. This story was a good read and I am glad I bought it but it wan't great page turning hypnotic.

    Holy Mary Mother...

Wowzers! This was one hot read. I loved it. I'm a big fan of erotica and Shannon McKenna definitely knows how to give her readers what they want. I have to disagree with previous reveiws and say that I did think she story line was good. When I want erotic romance I read McKenna or Lora Leigh, when I want something where the romance/sex takes a backseat then I read someone else. Review before you buy that way you won't be taken aback.

    good read

a good read. erin and connor had already had known each other for years before they were actually involved in a sexual relastionship. yet they both have had wild fantasies about each other. so when the two finally become involved it feels real and sensual.

    New Fan

I stumbled apon this book by accident and decided, 'What the heck, I'll buy it!' From the very first chapter you are hooked and wanting more. This book suprised me, i have been looking for new romance-suspense novel for some time now and this auther has been sitting right under my nose the whole time. When you read this book you get the feeling that these characters could actually be real people and your drawn in. You also are going to get really turned on! This book is one of my top three favortie Romance Novels!
