All Music Guide - Jim Smith
Shelton's "all-star" record pays tribute to Shelton's boyhood heroes, featuring material by the Carter Family, Flatt & Scruggs, the Stanley Brothers, and others. A poignant take on "Sally Ann" is the album's standout performance, a duet with Union Station's Barry Bales, but mostly it is Shelton's Scruggs-style banjo licks that are the dominant force. A mix of vocal and instrumental performances, there is nothing overly remarkable here, but as with all of Shelton's records, there is a lot of pleasant traditional music.
