Meanwhile, songs such as the tranquil "Slum Beautiful," which features trance-inducing guitar loops and Al Green-esque vocals à la Goodie Mob's Cee-Lo, are no less breathtaking. Whether OutKast are rhyming over percussive Casio-keyboards and scratch-layered beats on the extraordinary "Humble Jumble," which features the primal screams of Erykah Badu, or inspiring side-splitting laughter with "Miss Jackson," an ode to your baby's mama's momma, Stankonia takes us on a fantastic voyage. All Music Guide - Steve Huey
Stankonia was OutKast's second straight masterstroke, an album just as ambitious, just as all-over-the-map, and even hookier than its predecessor. With producers Organized Noize playing a diminished role, Stankonia reclaims the duo's futuristic bent. Earthtone III Andre, Big Boi, Mr. DJ helms most of the backing tracks, and while the live-performance approach is still present, there's more reliance on programmed percussion, otherworldly synthesizers, and surreal sound effects. Yet the results are surprisingly warm and soulful, a trippy sort of techno-psychedelic funk. Every repeat listen seems to uncover some new element in the mix, but most of the songs have such memorable hooks that it's easy to stay diverted. The immediate dividends include two of 2000's best singles: "B.O.B." is the fastest of several tracks built on jittery drum'n'bass rhythms, but Andre and Big Boi keep up with awe-inspiring effortlessness. "Ms. Jackson," meanwhile, is an anguished plea directed at the mother of the mother of an out-of-wedlock child, tinged with regret, bitterness, and affection. Its sensitivity and social awareness are echoed in varying proportions elsewhere, from the Public Enemy-style rant "Gasoline Dreams" to the heartbreaking suicide tale "Toilet Tisha." But the group also returns to its roots for some of the most testosterone-drenched material since their debut. Then again, OutKast doesn't take its posturing too seriously, which is why they can portray women holding their own, or make bizarre boasts about being "So Fresh, So Clean." Given the variety of moods, it helps that the album is broken up by brief, usually humorous interludes, which serve as a sort of reset button. It takes a few listens to pull everything together, but given the immense scope, it's striking how few weak tracks there are. It's no wonder Stankonia consolidated OutKast's status as critics' darlings, and began attracting broad new audiences: its across-the-board appeal and ambition overshadowed nearly every other pop album released in 2000.

    Outkast is Everlasting

Outkast is ALWAYS one of the best. This album is NO exception. "Bombs over Baghdad" (featured in the movie "Head of State") is one of my personal favorites. Its fast paced beat with heavy bass are almost as good as the lyrics... if you can catch 'em! Andre 3000 and Big Boi spit lightening quick over this song that makes me wanna get up and sing... I LOVE OUTKAST!

    bombs over bagdad

this is off the hook. you know lot groups who can make still after 3 bangin' albums another classic? well, i don't, now that i heard 'so fresh so clean' and 'b.o.b. (bombs over bagdad)'i'm trying to support this ! so i'm trying to enlarge these chicks' knowledge, playing 'jazzy belle', 'ms.jackon' and 'b.o.b.', telling them how much they changed my life (wich isn't with the average southern record) and they like : oh, i like 'roses' and 'hey ya' fo'shure. buy this and never push on the stop button for the rest of your life. u did it, didn't u?

They are so beyond most of the other hip hippers out there. This has got to be funkiest, stankiest album I've ever listened to. If you like hot and steamy music buy this and blast this up really high, sounds better that way.

Tha Stankiest Album Of The Year

I love the way that OutKast has changed their style. Last time around, their classic ''Aquemini'' used funky bass lines and Dre (now Andre 3000) and Big Boi down south lyrics. Now on ''Stankonia'' they are trying a new style not often seen in hip-hop, techno/dance. OutKast has done a very good job blending the drum-n-bass beats with their own southern style. This is shown very well on the first single ¿B.O.B (Bombs Over Baghdad)¿. The beat sounds like something from a Fatboy Slim album on double-speed. Dre and Big Boi also rap to the high-speed beat effortlessly. They are many other standout tracks on ¿Stankonia¿ including ¿Humble Mumble¿ with Erykah Badu, ¿Slum Beautiful¿, ¿Gasoline Dreams¿, and the hilarious ¿Ms. Jackson¿. Another track that I liked was ¿So Fresh, So Clean¿, which sounded like a track taken from ¿Aquemini¿. It¿s not a bad thing, and I really like the beat. There weren¿t many bad tracks on ¿Stankonia¿, but with 20-something tracks on the album, there are plenty to make up for them. Also, the skits were nice little interludes from the music. Overall, OutKast has done an excellent job with ¿Stankonia¿. They have progressed from all their previous styles to a new one, that I think, many people will enjoy. If you¿re any type of hip-hop fan, you got to cop this classic from Andre 3000 and Big Boi.

Doesn't get any Stankier than this......

This album is fresh. I could've used a bunch of other adjectives for this.... but fresh is the best one. This album is like nothing I have ever heard. OutKast has really taken it to another level here. Their sound is unmatched in hip hop and now their musicianship is also untouchable (except maybe by the Roots). Regardless, they hit you from every angle on this LP. Futuristic funk to free your mind and your a** with a hip hop flava to it. No doubt the most innovative album of 2000, maybe even the best of the year period.

my alien brothers symbolize true artists. artist are supposed to paint different pictures when the brush hits the canvas, not painting the same old thing every time like everyone else. i truly appreciate the effort they put into each album. maybe i can join them one day. mmmmm...........

Welcome the Future Sound of HIP-HOP

OutKast where would you like to start...let us begin with the influences here...George Clinton, Jimi Hendryx, Prince, Sly Stone, Bootsy Collins...the beats...5 stars...the lyrics...OutKast. This is a classical hip-hip record this will be a reference for future listeners, those who say otherwise are indeed haters. This album represents a bridge to the genre of music presently available and poses a challenge for musical supremency....feedback encouraged.

    Amazing

They have done it again. This is the best album I have heard in years. I wouldn't even consider Outkast hip-hop anymore. They have said they don't even listen to hip-hop and you can tell. This album is so refreshing and original. Their versaltility can be shown by comparing their first single ''BOB'' and their second ''Ms. Jackson'', both great in their own respect. This is so far ahead of any hip-hop album of today, it is impossible to compare it to anything. Their evolution since 1994 has been amazing. I hope people can see their greatness now, not until everyone catches up to them. One lyric that stands out is on ''So Fresh, So Clean''. Andre flows ''Teddy Pendergrass, cooler than Freddy Jackson sippin' on a milkshake in a snowstorm''. The style that he says it with just amazes me. I must have listened to this album 50 times already and I will continue to. Purchase Now!!

    Outkast keeps getting better

Outkast has done it again. Their new cd, Stankonia is hands down one of the best rap cds of the year. They change their style in this cd and come up with a whole new beat that will blow your mind. The song range from the fast almost techno sound of B.O.B to the smooth classic Outkast sound of Mrs. Jackson. It doesn't matter if you are the biggest Outkast fan or an avid Outkast critic, you are bound to enjoy this cd. If you are gonna buy one rap cd this year, make sure this is it.
