This was a great series that was well-written with many twists and turns as we followed Martin Kluge from problem to problem. If it was the last of the series, it was a good ending. I would like to see more of Martin in the future.

    Solid mid-future scifi

The Doom-Star series is solid mid-future scifi that explores some the darker social evolutions. The series takes place on a solar system scale; fitting nicely with the tech, which manages to be believable and not distracting.
Social Unity is a truly terrifying concept in its plausibility; the citizens eventually ground to complacence over generations with violence, death, and torture. The whole system is very inverse utopia, circa 1984 but noticeably more perverse and sadistic.
Another extreme of social development shows with the ‘capitalists,’ where a person without credit is considered worthless and subject to slavery or execution. Even the hyper-rational government of the moons of Jupiter has its sadistic streak.
As the governments of the solar system struggle for supremacy, super-soldiers are created; naturally rebelling against their creators. The High-Born are the quintessential Nazi genetic experiment gone awry. Likewise, the Cyborgs are grotesque abominations of melded men and machines.
Throughout, the author explores the cruel, vile, and obscene tendencies of human nature. Torture by the Politcal Harmony Corps, Treatment of captured ‘pre-men’ and the horrific cyborg conversion process are explored in detail.

I found to the story engaging it was hard putting these books down. However there were some typos, and I found the writing style to be amateurish at times. Typos aside, the series was very entertaining. My only complaint was the length of the books, and I would like to see the series have better editing as well.
