With so many books ad so little time, I got 2/3rds through this book and decided it just wasn't worth finishing.

I normally read paranormal romance but decided to try a little sci-fi since I enjoy Cheryl Brooks' Cat Star Chronicle series. Unfortunately, I stayed bored most of the time and felt like I was waiting for something really exciting to happen that never came. It also seemed like both characters spent too much time dwelling on their self-pity to actually live their lives (irritating). So with that said, I probably won't read the other books in this series but if you enjoy sci-fi romance you will probably like this series.

I read the first chapter of this book from the publishers web site and was very excited about its release. Then I read all of the book. The long time span was a surprise, a bad surprise. The heroines character was dull as dish water. I expected some umpf, some spark, some something. The hero was ok. That's about all I can muster for the hero, he was ok. The most interesting part of the book with the bad guy didn't happen until almost the end. Ugh, I was so disappointed!

This book almost defies genre labeling, it has elements of a time travel, futuristic and SF and yet still manages to be very much a romance with a deft use of humor and a passionate love relationship. Jasmine was a strong heroine and not conventional for a romance novel. When is the last time you read about a 40-ish, divorced mother of two grown children? What a gutsy lady! I loved the fact that she grabbed her fate in her hands and bamboozled her way onto the space ship for a journey to far away places. Even when Jas needed to be rescued, she took the steps necessary to facilitate it. Rom is a wonderful hero, but he's more conventional in genre terms, even if he is an alien. His actions are often truly heroic, yet he is troubled enough to be interesting. Since the hero was also mid-40's it was nice to see him with someone his own age, instead of the usual early to mid-20's heroine. I liked the setting and thought it very imaginative. I especially liked the reaction to the arrival of the aliens in the U.S., probably much like what would happen if (or when) they really come. But, I thought Grant kept sight of the romance amidst all of the action &adventure. Wonderful stuff! I wouldn't mind a sequel with Jasmine's son Ian. :)

I have never read science fiction, always believing that they had little or no romance or interaction between the characters. Not so with THE STAR KING. This book captivated me as no book has done in a long time. It flowed beautifully. I lived and breathed this story, visited every planet, saw every color, and experienced every emotion. I felt the passion between Rom and Jas and I fell totally, completely, and unabashedly in love with Rom. I hated to see this story end, and look forward to the sequel. The writing is crisp, dialogue easy to understand, the humor is wonderful, and it's filled with sexual tension! The story is fast paced, yet the technology doesn't get in the way of the romance. When the action and adventure culminated in a wonderfully emotional and very surprising ending, I had goose bumps all over from it! Don't let your reluctance to read a science fiction book keep you from experiencing this beautifully written and emotionally heartwarming love story. This is a must read for all lovers of romance and science fiction alike!

I really loved this book 'The Star King'. The characters will stay with me for a very long time. I wish there were more books like this available in this genre. I bought 'Once A Pirate' the author's first book and plan to read it this weekend. I hope 'Star Prince' is about Ian from the 'Star King'

She bails out of her disabled jet, but lands on an alien-looking desert with spaceships flying overhead. She also encounters an injured Romlijhian B¿Kah, whose starfighter crashed killing his brother. Only his vision of the angel Jas saves his life.
Two decades later (in earth time), Jas has divorced her spouse, has two young adult children, and struggles with a mid-life crisis. Due to Rom¿s injuries and his failure to save his people on that fatal day, years ago, he no longer leads. Instead he is a minor smuggler, estranged from his own family. Rom and his people make first contact with earthlings. Will Rom and Jas find each other to follow up on that dream and if they do will each take the necessary steps to embrace their love?
THE STAR KING is an exciting science fiction romance or perhaps a better label might be a realistic romantic science fiction that will strongly appeal to fans of both genres. The story line is loaded with action that is augmented by an understanding of the lead characters and several of the key support players. Little things about Rom (try saying his full name three times fast) and Jas make the novel ring true even as Susan Grant flies her audience through her book in a faster than light speed. Science fiction and futuristic romance aficionados will welcome Ms. Grant into the fold and demand sequels starring several secondary cast members.

THE STAR KING is one story I hated to see end. It's so darn much fun traveling through space seeing different worlds and peoples learning different languages, and having a great adventure while you're at it. The story is well written and very imaginative with stellar characters, especially the to-die-for Star King himself, Romlijhian B'kah (Rom). He's a special renegade in space! Ms.Grant does a perfect job of making this story seem authentic since she flies commercial jets herself. What a woman! So hold on and strap yourself in, you are about to take the flight of your life with a compelling cast of characters who also have a super sense of humor. This a great book. Brava, and a thousand roses to Ms. Grant. I hope she'll be writing more of these stories!
