Overview

It’s survival of the fittest in a brutal war of extinction!

Created in the gene labs as super soldiers, the Highborn decide to replace the obsolete Homo sapiens. They pirate the Doom Stars and capture the Sun Works Ring around Mercury. Now they rain asteroids, orbital fighters and nine-foot tall drop troops onto Earth in a relentless tide of conquest.

Marten Kluge is on the receiving end. Hounded by Thought Police, he lives like an ant in a kilometer-deep city. The invasion frees him from a re-education camp but lands him in the military, fighting for the wrong side. Star Soldier is the story of techno hell in a merciless war, with too many surprises for any grunt’s sanity. Star Soldier is a full novel, 82,000 words in length by Vaughn Heppner, Writers of the Future winner, Vol. IX.

    Good read

Well done, gripping and fast paced. The book needs a better editor! Mispellings and awkward phrasing were distracting but failed to ruin an otherwise good read.

    Enjoyable but lacking.

Good plot, reasonably well written book though I felt as though the characters were one dimensional and lacked relateable personalities. They all felt mechanical and stock.

    Could not finish

This is third book that i have started and could not finish. It never seemed to go anywhere and did not grab my attention. I continued to push through to page 270 and gave up. I love to read but this book made reading a chore.

I like rational, believeable and engaging Sci-Fi, and Heppner ha

I like rational, believeable and engaging Sci-Fi, and Heppner has created a rational, although somewhat dark, future universe where mankind is locked in a life or death struggle for survival (with what could be described as mankind's own alter-egos), products of mankind's own technical advances. All of the books I have read so far are good, and I would recommend them to other sci-fi fans. Heppner needs to finish book # 6, I am not getting any younger waiting!!.

    more from this reviewer

    Good for a buck.

A pretty good story. Has enough attention grabbing that I want to see what will happen to the Main characters in the next book. Will it do as well in history as Farenheit 451 or 1984, well no, but if you treat it as a "pulp fiction" of those two books its good.

    Very Enjoyable Read

This was a very engaging read. The main character who has lived in one society and fought against that society independently suddenly is forced into a situation where he learns much about his society and the rebel society. He has to decided whom he wants to serve, if anyone, at least from what I have read so far. Very fast moving book and nice character development proceeding. I went and got the other two books in the series after reading this one.
