Overview

Seven years have passed since a catastrophic explosion on the Klingon moon Praxis touched off a chain of events that would result in the assassination of the reformist High Chancellor Gorkon, and the eventual creation of the historicKhitomer Accords. Now, as part of the ongoing efforts to undo the disastrous fallout from the destruction of Praxis and with the help of aid supplies from the United Federation of Planets, reconstruction is in progress, and after years of slow going hindered by political pressures and old prejudices, headway is at last being made. But the peace process begun by theKhitomer Accords is still fragile just as the deadly plans of what is believed to be a hard-line Klingon isolationist group violently come to fruition.

Yet the group thought responsible for the deadly attack has been dormant for decades, and its known modus operandi doesn’t match up to the manner of the strike. And further investigation leads to an unexpected revelation connected to the Gorkon conspiracy of 2293, and in particular one disgraced and very familiar Starfleet lieutenant….

    more from this reviewer

    very highly recommended

I have read many Star Trek novels and I must say this was one of the best. I tied up loose ends from the movie, "The Undiscovered Country".

I especially liked the depth of thought and logic that was a part of Valeris' reasons for her betrayal.

If you are a die hard trek fan, especially TOS you'll like this book

What drove Spock's protege Valeris to be part of the conspiracy to assassinate the Klingon Chancellor in Star Trek IV The Undiscovered Country and what happened after Kirk and crew once again saved the day ? Despite getting off to a somewhat slow start, this book did a great job of bringing things together in a story that mostly takes place a few years after the Khitomer accords, but with flashbacks to show what shaped the conspiracy and what events led to Valeris believing that was the proper (and logical?) course of action. As many Trek books do it also brought in other aspects of other characters you know from either later series or the books related to those series, but giving you some insights into the earlier experience of those characters too. If you are a die hard trek fan, especially TOS you'll like this book

    great plot, but.......

Excellent timeing, coming out just befre 9/11 anniversary. Great plot, excellent characters, but needs much editing. Probably about 100 pages too long, with too mucvh detail about the terrorists' plots. Also, chapter of Kirk giving speech could have been told in about 3 sentences. Was this guy paid by the word? I was able to skim A LOT of it and still enjoy. ONly LOTR and Harry Potter books should be this long. Most Star Trek stories can be told in 200- 230 pages.
