Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged. It easy to know how well this score works when you seen the movie, but apart from the film it is equally as compelling. Michael Giacchino has given Stat Trek a new sound that is independent from all previous musical incarnations - only the theme from the old TV show is used, and then it's only used at the end. This is film scoring in the John Williams vein full of catchy themes and wonderful counterpoint. Michael Giacchino has had one heck of a year in 2009 and the future only looks brighter! Sad that the Oscar winning score for Up never had a proper CD release.

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.I saw Star Trek three times, and have most of the soundtracks from their 11 movies. This soundtrack evokes many fond memories of the new movie, and makes me eager for the day when the film is available on DVD. Even the quirky names of the tracks symbolize how this Star Trek is more "cutting edge" than those that came before it. Even my kids (8 & 2) enjoy the music. Purchasing this soundtrack is the next logical step for anyone who wants more Trek!

I am a soundtrack junkie and was so impressed by the music that I immediately went to purchase the cd when I left the movie theater. After searching desperately I found the last copy at the local B&N store. THANK GOD! The musicianship and style variety from smooth to harsh makes you feel like your right there next to Capt. Kirk or least wish you could be anyway. It makes you ready to fight the good fight. EXCELLENT MUSIC!!! I've already recommended it to everyone I know and hope that one day, as a brass player, I will get the joy getting to play the music myself.

It was wonderful to see elements from the series, and movies combined into something truly new. Being a fan of instrumental music, I completely loved Michael Giacchino's score, and it sounds just as good playing out of my car's audio system.

All Music Guide - James Christopher Monger
Composer Michael Giacchino (Alias, Lost, Mission: Impossible 3), no stranger to the hyper-adrenalized worlds conjured by director J.J. Abrams, decided to "boldly go where no man has gone before" for the 2009 reboot of one of the most beloved science fiction franchises in history. To be fair, Giacchino's wildly heroic re-imagining of the Star Trek universe cribs the occasional motif from Jerry Goldsmith's original score (the end credits majestically weave in the original Alexander Courage-penned television theme), but it's more of a tip of the hat than an act of submission. Like any sci-fi score worth its weight in collapsing stars, the 11th big-screen voyage of...
