The book A New Hope takes place a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. This book is about a Princess named Leia who is trying to save her home planet from the planet death star that Darth Vader controls. She enlists the help of Han Solo, CP3O, R2D2, Luke Skywalker, and Obi-Won Kenobi to help her save her planet. Together they form a Rebel Alliance against Darth Vader. They defeat Vader, but her planet is destroyed. They defeat Darth Vader by going into TIE fighters and hitting the self destruct button on the side of death star. While I enjoyed the characters' creative names and cool personalities, there was not much else I liked about the book. There was no hook, nothing to draw me into the story. It sounded depressing right from the start. While it got better as the book unfolded, in my opinion, the negatives still outweighed the positives. I did not like the author's writing style. The pace of the book was way too slow and I found it to be unimaginative and humorless. The author used sentences that were too long and used too many formal words, making it hard to read. I enjoy a more casual writing style. I also did not like how Princess Leia's planet wasn't able to be saved from Death Star. The outcome of the plot could have been better. Lastly, I did not enjoy the length of this book because although it was short, the plot moved so slowly that it seemed to drag on forever. Because of these negatives I cannot personally recommend this book to others. Only enthusiastic fans of science fiction, or people who are obsessed with Star War movies, would likely enjoy this book.
