Failing to crush the rebels by attacking their base on the ice planet, Hoth, Darth Vader's fleet hotly pursues the millennium falcon. Grades 6-12. Spotlight and Dark Horse Comics are proud to present, in an all-new package, the comics adaptation of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. With the Death Star destroyed, the Empire has declared martial law throughout the galaxy. A thousand worlds have felt the oppressive hand of the Emperor as he attempts to crush the growing Rebellion. As the Imperial grip of tyranny tightens, Luke, Leia, Han, and the rest of the small band of freedom fighters continue to press for the salvation of the planets -- but such a small crew stands little hope of succeeding against the dominant might of the Empire. But sometimes that's all it takes -- a little hope.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Kathie M. Josephs
In this episode, the freedom fighters are once again working on saving planets from the Empire. The Death Star has been destroyed, and the thousand worlds are now under martial law. Luke believes he and his small group are being watched. A small person shows up and says that he can guide the group to Yoda, who can in turn guide them to a Jedi Master. Meanwhile, Darth Vader is planning evil deeds and it is questionable if the freedom fighters can actually save the planets. This book is written in the graphic novel style. It is a format well-suited for reluctant readers, who can enjoy and finish them. The illustrations add much to the story, and yellow boxes are incorporated when supplemental information is needed to understand what is going on throughout the book. The vocabulary has been well-selected, and the author bolds many of the words to emphasize the characters' speaking tones. This action-packed story is part of a series that should be read in order. I am not a fan of books in a series that leave readers hanging and require them to buy the next book. Reviewer: Kathie M. Josephs
